TCU Now Attempts To Cowboy Up!

Photo by Willie Martin "Mr. Will"

October continues to rock and roll for the kids in Fort Worth.

As late as this morning the mere mention of last weeks 61-58 debacle in Waco still had people ticked off because of the blown lead and because of some missed calls by the refs. Especially in the fourth quarter when the Horned Frogs held off a Baylor drive except for a bogus pass interference call.

Before looking ahead to the 3pm kickoff with the Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-1 3-0 Big 12) how about one last look back at the scoring classic that was Baylor?

    The Wildness That Was Waco

Over 1,267 total yards of offense by the two teams. 782 of that by Baylor where Bryce Petty would account for 510 of those yards via six touchdown passes at McLane Stadium.

TCU and Baylor were a combined 11 for 11 in red zone scoring chances.

With 10:48 left in the game and a 58-37 lead TCU would only accrue 47 yards on the ground and in the air. Some questionable play calling also. Throwing passes to receivers who then proceeded to not stay in bounds?

When crunch time arrived Baylor went 4 for 6 on 4th downs.

Over 227 yards on 20 penalties.

There was no stopping Shock Linwood as he pounded out 178 yards on 29 carries.  Too much Antwan Goodley and Corey Coleman who combined for 16 catches and 302 yards.

Paul Dawson was a beast for TCU with 18 tackles. 14 of those were unassisted. Marcus Mallet with ten and a 49 yard interception for a touchdown.

The highest scoring point total ever between two ranked Top Ten AP ranked teams in College Football history.

58 points were the most ever allowed by a Baylor coached team.

Baylor at no time had a lead in the game until Chris Callahan's 28 yard field goal at the gun to send 46,000 fans into delirium along the Brazos River.

Saturday the two winningest coaches for TCU and Oklahoma will get together for the first meeting in Ft. Worth since 1992. Last year Clint Chelf led the Cowboys to a 24-10 victory over TCU in Stillwater.

Daxx Garman will be leading the way at quarterback (10 TDs 5 Ints), Desmond Roland in the backfield (391 yards 7 TDs), Brandon Sheperd and David Glidden the primary receivers (36 receptions 564 yards 3 TDs).

This weekend will also mark the first time in Ft. Worth that two teams will be ranked 15th or higher. The first time for this to happen since 1984 when #12 TCU played #10 Texas in Ft. Worth.

Ryan Simmons and Seth Jacobs (85 total tackles) will lead the D line and try their hardest to be a disruption to Trevone Boykin throwing or running.

Oklahoma State riding a five game winning streak after losing an opening game to Florida State in Arlington. This will mark the second straight road game for Team Gundy after four straight home games in Stillwater.

To lose in the manner that TCU did last week is something that could become a bugaboo in games where there is a big lead to lose...or perhaps an incentive to work and practice harder for the next time that situation reveals itself.

TCU is 28-11 when coming off a loss under Gary Patterson's watch. They reached the 4-1 mark for the fifth time in seven years. They have already matched their win total for all of 2013.

Look for TCU to be very aggressive in their offensive ways. Last week I correctly predicted a huge game for BJ Catalon. This week I say the same for Josh Doctson while Kolby Listenbee absorbs numerous double teams this weekend in Ft. Worth.

#12 TCU versus #15 Oklahoma State. For some reason a 44-41 overtime thriller will not surprise me one darn bit. A prelude to the arrival of Texas Tech the following week at Amon Carter in Ft. Worth. That will be a 2:30 start.

To another exciting weekend in Ft. Worth!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
