Branden Oliver Stepping Up For San Diego!

Since the San Diego Chargers are stuck on the West Coast, they often get overlooked. Even though they have one of the best records in the NFL, they still do not seem to get the same type of respect as other talented teams on the East Coast. Maybe that is why Branden Oliver continues to fly under the radar as one of the best young players so far this season. He has been able to take over the running back position, and people who are fans of the Chargers and who play fantasy football are more than satisfied.

San Diego has been very sharp since losing the opener, but everything has not gone completely right for them. Injuries have really started to pile up at the right back position, and that forced San Diego to give an undrafted rookie a chance to be a starter. Oliver was pretty successful in college, but a lot of people thought that it would not translate to the NFL. In the last 2 weeks, he has a total of 215 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. He is also been a threat for Philip Rivers in the air, as he has brought in 8 passes for 91 yards and another touchdown.

No one really knows for sure when Ryan Mathews and Donald Brown will be fully healthy and ready to go. Not only that, but Danny Woodhead is already out for the entire season. That means Oliver could be seeing significant playing time for the rest of the regular season. As long as he is able to take some of the pressure off of Rivers on offense, San Diego will be more than satisfied with what he’s able to do.

With an excellent passing game and one of the best defenses in the NFL, San Diego sitting pretty at this point. If the running game provided by Oliver continues to improve, this team is going to be one to watch in the playoffs without question. Maybe they will finally start to get some respect around the country.
