SCARred for Life?

Hello and happy Sunday everyone! I hope the weekend is treating you well.
Yesterday was a true spur of the moment afternoon/evening. Nothing planned while attending to matters at home when I got a text.
'T.O. Allen Wranglers...you in?'
'I'm In! What time?'
'7 pm sharp. I'll be late coming in from Ft. Worth. Meet me there, okay?'
'Done!'
My favorite four letter word when there is a project to knock out. Courtesy of Jay Betsill and the good people over at www.dfw.com I had an up close seat for the premiere of the Allen Wranglers 2012 season with part owner/receiver Terrell Owens. It was my first trip back to Allen since 4/30/11 under tornado-watch conditions to watch the Americans hockey team. The very same day Osama Bin Laden was killed.
I got to Allen 35 minutes before kickoff. That area around Stacy Rd. is usually busy. More of the same last night...to the point it took 24 minutes to find a parking spot. I thought I noticed a lot of walk-up traffic for this game with the Wichita Wild. That was to be the case.
A full house inside the Allen Events Center saw Terrell Owens connect with the fans and with his quarterback with three touchdown passes in the first half. A 31-20 lead for the Wranglers. Content to block and not catch a pass in the second half Allen won going away for a 50-30 victory.
After the game the fans stuck around for a meet and greet with the players. The line for T.O. was well over 100 yards at one point. ALL kinds of jerseys and memorabilia that Terrell gladly signed for almost 30 minutes and then a press conference for the assembled media. I tell you this: Mr. Owens at 38 looks like he can still help an NFL team down the road.
If Saturday were to be a platform/stepping stone for a comeback to the NFL, a case can be made for Owens. As part owner he can opt out of not playing road games. This is mentioned as the Wranglers now go on the road for four weeks before the next Wranglers home game on March 31st. It makes sense for me to have your marquee guy healthy for the local fans.
A crowd of 5,711 fans showed up Saturday night, easily eclipsing the total attendance for all the Wrangler home games last year. Kudos to John Frankel and Drew Pearson for this acquisition. Fun times in Allen. Again my thanks to Jay Betsill for allowing me to tag along. I will be back...
Today will be a day for NASCAR and numerous Oscar watching parties. I will be double dipping in Dallas and Frisco this day for both events. Camera and recorder at the ready for the fun and frivolity.
Birthday wishes to both Maverick and Stars announcers Mark Followill and Ralph Strangis. Both are a year older today. Happy Birthday, boys! Jackie Gleason born this day in 1916...
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
