In The Red...

Hello and Happy Monday everyone.
Without question a double dose of double dipping has taken it's toll as I awake this day exhausted and sleep deprived. Not that I am complaining. This is a good tired...
Yesterday was a fun time in downtown Dallas for a race that didn't come to be. The Daytona 500 was postponed for the 1st time since 1959. Rain was constant all day long. It is now planned for a noon start time today. It was great however to hang with a bunch of friends for a short while before the afternoon arrived and it was nap time before an evening in Frisco/Plano.
With a 5:30 start time for an Oscar watching party at the Social 121 Club, I was in dreamland when the phone buzzed at 3:45 pm. One of the scheduled interviewers fell sick. How would I feel about being an interviewer on the Red Carpet on behalf of Dianne Samoff's charity? In a word, yes!
Digging deep for an outfit Mom and Dad would be proud of I went with a Black and Blue look. I arrived at the Social right at 5 pm. I recognized quite a few faces from other events. With about 20 minutes to get ready, I was briefed on what to ask and feel free to ad-lib thereafter. As if that was going to be a problem for me...
Some wonderfully dressed people on Academy Awards Sunday night as many were awaiting the start of Billy Crystal's return. There were artists pitching personal works. Shoes were being dropped off in droves. Pizza was being served to volunteers. I saw some beautifully coiffed trains on the ladies. Even an appearance by Miss Texas, Miss Hurst, and Miss Arlington. Not a bad turnout at all on behalf of te society of women who love shoes.
Once underway the brothers Gilmore handled the videography and were beyond professional. Larry Knowles did the lion's share of work with photoraphy duties, Vanessa Compton did equally amazing work with the interviewing duties. Note: For brownie points, if you know a person named Vanessa, be sure to make their day by stating, 'Vanessa means butterfly!' Guaranteed to make a person smile.
There were contests for best shoe, best dress, and best necktie. Some of the most colorful tuxedos I have seen in a while. The ladies made me proud enough to say they are Texan (smile). In all, a turnout of close to 275-300 people.
Can't tell you how weird it was to meet people for the first time that I have known on Facebook for years. Dennis Carpenter and Shelly Koehler both got to meet me at my best with a mike in hand. That was actually kind of a funny moment. A great moment nonetheless.
Along the way I also ran into kindred spirit Kimi Preston-fresh off a plane from St. Louis from another charity event-all smiles and ready to do what she does best-volunteer...
My thanks to the Samoffs, Eric Dyson, Cheryl Evans, the Comptons, and to all the volunteers who were instrumental in making Sunday night a memorable evening. Can't wait to do it again!
As for today's Daytona race I like Dale Jr. to end his losing streak amidst a sea of caution flags. Why not?
Nothing on tap except laundry, cigar, and to lay low. Here's to a week of relaxation for a change.
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
