Of Four and 40...
Happy Monday from a dreary and wet North Texas everyone.
For a while last night we had snow and sleet falling from the sky despite a mercury read of almost 40 degrees. Cold weather I can handle with little difficulty. When the winds from the north start to blow, it has a tendency to cut right through the bone. That is when I truly feel my age.
Phil Mickelson was absolutely lights out with his performance yesterday in Monterey. His putting and his aggressive approach the first nine holes reminded me quite a bit of Tiger Woods when he did the exact same thing 12 years ago at the U.S. Open in the same locale. Tiger on the other hand did nothing to help his cause as he fell victim to putter betrayal, limping home with a 75.
Some numerical fun: The win was Phil's 40th careerwise. But wait. does history repeat? Prior to this past week, Phil had played very poorly in the 3 events prior before winning on the 4th tourney. Look back at 2007 and 2009 and the very same thing happened to Sir Phil! Go figure...
Somewhat relieved to hear that Whitney Houston was not a victim of foul play over the weekend. Even so, I am reminded of a line that the fictitious character Socrates says in 'The Way of the Peaceful Warrior'. 'Every pleasure has its price.' It's been well-documented what Miss Houston put herself through when running with the demon dealer. It has a way of taking its toll. That...and 'yes people'...
Jennifer Hudson absolutely NAILED it on the Grammy Awards Show last night! Saw a good half hour of the program. The hairs on my arms stood up when Hudson completed the singing of Whitney's song. Wow! Very well done. A nicely done program too!
There was no matinee fun in Dallas Sunday as the Stars fell to the L.A. Kings by a 4-2 count.
With a road game in Detroit as the Red Wings try to make history for consecutive road wins, I smell a Valentine's Day Massacre for the local guys.
Still on the outside looking in. Fun times hanging with Kim Francis and friend Nancy. Thanks, ladies.
'Monday Night In Texas' returns to the air waves this evening as I check in from the AAC a 3rd straight night with the Clippers in town.
May I not get posterized by Blake Griffin. Today's date also matches the local area code for the Los Angeles team. Caron Butler now gets to enjoy his ring upon arrival...
After a weekend of cold and dreary a day of 70 will arrive on Wednesday. That's welcome news!
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
