Hello and Happy Sunday friends!
Mere hours away from what will undoubtedly will be a highly rated television number when the Mavericks and Knicks tip off this afternoon, I am slowly recovering from the fun and the events I was able to enjoy yesterday in Frisco, Texas as FC Dallas park.
Initially there was an exhibition game with the team of FC Dallas with the University of Tulsa outside on the practice field. Despite a rotten gloomy forecast all day we actually had a 45 minute window ofsunshine and cloud breaks before the wet stuff returned with a vengeance. It was a cool chilly day as we flirted with 50 degrees.
Around noon all season-ticket holders were led into the River Club inside the FC Dallas Park. The crowd was well into the thousands. An absolute sea of Red, White, and Blue were on hand to meet and greet the team in one hour's time. Appetizers and soft drinks were being served as the crowd grew bigger and awaited the arrival of Team FC Dallas.
I would learn quickly that my ticket rep Alex Odiari was with family in Africa. Thankfully Alan Latkovic was more than happy to hop aboard and spare a few minutes with me. That was alot of fun.
Having had so much experience with meet and greets I have learned the following: If there is a superstar on a team a la Dirk, Michael Young, Tony Romo, etc, everyone RUNS to get that one. I say, 'Balderdash!' The superstar you can get anytime. The lesser knowns are easier to grab. On a team of 17-18 players, I successfully got pictures with everyone except Brek Shea. I'll have that moment another day.
The line for Brek Shea was such that I actually felt I was a concert goer to watch the Beatles back in the day. As Alan Latkovic would tell me, 'Shea is a bonafide superstar who appeals to so many people on so many levels like a David Beckham! We're proud to have him!' Well said Alan! So many kids, so many jerseys, so many cameras, so much buzz for the Sheamaster. To get 17 photo ops with a whole team are actually good odds.
The countdown to the regular season is on. March 11th with the New York Red Bulls. Today ABC will be frothing for a record rating of a day. On March 11th, 1 year removed from the start of an NFL lockout and tsunami in Japan, another New York team will come to Frisco, Texas to begin what should be an exciting 2012 MLS season for FC Dallas. NBC Sports will be covering that game. I will be there!
Time for some Mavs and then a 'Big Rich Texas' Season 2 premiere tonight. Going to be a fun day. Now to see if this Jeremy Lin chap is worth all the buzz I am reading and seeing.
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
