    Of Sport and Budding Moons.

    Happy Hump Day everyone!

It has been a wonderful few days of fall like weather here in North Texas. Of course summer still has a few ideas of it's own. Another heat wave is headed our way with another chance of reaching the triple digit mark. 1 more day in that category and we tie 1980 for supremacy in these conditions. It would be just our luck to get teased again and top out at 99. That would not surprise me at all.

ESPN born this day in 1979. There was a vision and a hope that sports would and could be shown 24 hours a day. Who would have thought? Genius. I remember the days of Tom Mees, Bob Ley, and Lee Leonard quite well. 32 and holding. Happy Birthday ESPN! To 32 more...

This day 1978 was a Thursday. School was in it's first day. It was 3rd class with Mr. Jones when I heard Keith Moon had passed away. Exactly two weeks after a final appearance on 'Good Morning America' with David Hartman and that Sandy brunette who I thought was so hot...Moonie was only 31. It didn't seem right...

The irony of Keith's passing was that he was watching a movie on the life of Buddy Holly Buddy Holly had a birthday on September 7th! Almost 75 years ago. He too left us way too soon after losing a bet to Waylon Jennings via a coin flip. Moon also was i the same place where Cass Elliott died in July 1974.

With 20 or so games left in the baseball season the only real race remains in the A.L. West as everything else is wrapped up to the point of the Wild Cards. As much as I welcome a return to the Yankees and Rangers, something tells me Texas is going to get gassed and have a flat down the stretch. So long as the Angels stay within 3, I favor them.

CJ Wilson has been money of late and I grant him that kudos. I have no faith in the rest of the pitching staff. That bullpen alone is enough to increase the sale of Tums for weak tummies. Nelly is injured and while David Murphy has filled in admirably, I am convinced that Josh Hamilton is not 100%! Problem.

I love what Wash has done in his 5 years as Ranger skipper, no question. It will not surprise me if the Rangers proceed to lay an egg at the hands of Oakland and Cleveland in the next week to ten days. I don't believe they have enough to hang on. I hope I am proven wrong, but I am not.

1 day away from the start of the NFL season, and the Jaguars with a stunning release of a starting QB? I didn't see this coming. Prediction: Jack Del Rio will not make it past Week 6 in the NFL. Too much baggage and problems ahead. Luke McCown a starter? Really?!? Damn!

What does Las Vegas know that we don't? Cowboys only a 4.5 point underdog. I'll take the points. I think Dallas can win outright. That over-confidence factor is what I'd be concerned about for the Jets. On the heels of getting over-emotional for the 9-11 pre game events, I think a letdown is very possible. The Cowboys a perfect 3-0 on games played 9-11th.

Looking forward to an outing in Plano with friends at the Coal Vines restaurant this afternoon. As for this morning, it's so nice I am going to walk to work and give the car the morning off. My favorite time of the year is September. 23 days until the start of the Texas State Fair. I can hardly wait!

    Make it a great day!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
