Return to Normalcy? Not So Fast...

    Hello and Happy Tuesday everybody!

Know that you are not alone with the dynamic of feeling lethargic after a three day respite from work and the daily grind. Maybe you were one of the lucky ones who had fun all weekend long and are now paying for it. Maybe you had to work and made some extra overtime pay. Whatever your mode I hope you are in a happy place.

It really saddened me to see all the death, destruction, and lack of containment happening as fires continue to rage out of control in middle Texas east of Austin and crippling Bastrop County. It wouldn't be so bad except for how dry the air has been. The damage is going to intensify before it lessens. With warmer weather due to return by weeks end-and another chance at 100 degrees by Monday-this is not what firefighters wish to hear.

Ditto what has transpired out in Palo Pinto County near the Possum Kingdom area. My sister even chimed in to tell me how sad it was to see all the charred remains from 4 months ago take away from what was once a splendor by the Lake. Mother Nature is something you don't mess around with. True that!

With the ten year anniversary coming up this Sunday I am reminded that the day of terror happened on a Tuesday. Mere hours after watching a Monday Night Game with the Giants and Broncos. I knew something was wrong when I went to my local coffee spot and they were closed. Like most of you I then went home and seethed for 96 hours watching all the video footage and reports from all networks. Hard to believe it has been a decade.

I am told that the Sunday night game with the Jets and Cowboys all fans will get a flag. There will be pre game stuff to commemorate Ground Zero ten years ago. I can only imagine how intense that is going to be. One of the few times my Dad was speechless to the point of crying. Mom had to go get him from work that day. I remember that very well. Dad finally spoke about 4 days later.

I even recall one of four trips to Yankee Stadium in 1976 and 1978. Each time Dad was quick to point us toward where the Twin Towers stood. I later learned that the buildings held a special symbol for him. A symbol of freedom...

Overcoming the pain of something in a relationship sense is something that you deal with over time, in your own way. In terms of being witness to the biggest act of terrorism on American soil where many innocent lives were taken, who am I to guess what that timetable is? I still get mad as hell when I think back to that day or look back at my journals. Really mad.

To an alcoholic there is no such thing as normal. To a normal person there is no such thing as going back in time. Only forward. Hard as that may be, that is the route we must all take at our own pace. The time for fun and relaxation is always a necessity in life. The time to accept and move on from what has been and what is to be is also a necessary requirement.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I also hope you are able to deal with whatever feelings and emotions 9-11-01 had on you and your immediate circle. Without question I will never forget!

    Make it a great day!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
