    Let Me 'Fall' Ahead/Sundays Recap!

    Wowza! Happy Labor Day everyone!

The day we have all awaited has finally come to pass. Kind of like the feeling you experience when you take the car through the wash and it comes out aglow. You quickly forget all the dirt and grime she had prior. Same analogy with the progression from hot and over 100 to cooler, breezier, and a mere 66 degrees at sunrise! You quickly forget what the heat felt like as your senses awaken to the season on the way. What a rush!

For the first time in seven months I drove around town this morning with the windows down. Then it hit me: 'Dude, you're only wearing a tee shirt and shorts. Ready to get sick?' Hell No! I quickly shut the windows down.

On this Labor Day 2011 North Texas will experience a wonderful cooling trend with a projected high of only 85. The low might get below 60! Wow! Double wow! I'm ready. Already got all the windows hiked up and flipped off the A/C switch. Figuratively and literally. TXU now groans in lost lost revenues for the fall...

While handling dogsitting duties this weekend, had a chance to get away for a spell with some friends over to Flower Mound. Courtesy of Dan 'The Man' McGrath and Karen Sampson, I was smack dab in the middle of a huge get together at the residence of Jim and Rachel Reuter. Good Lord, there was enough food to address a third world country!

Let me assure you that in the South when you are invited to a get together you will not leave hungry.

People in the South do things up big. Really big. Quickly discovered the knack my boy Dan has for cooking. Never mind the 10-15 brisket that was already in evidence.

Danny Mac was hard at work creating his dish of Cajun style Chicken and Ribs. So good they were ready to roll off the bone.

Yes, I was asked to sample first. When Dan looks at you and asks in his Cajun Coonass style, 'We gonna be alright Hoss?' you better believe the answer is a resounding 'YES!' Damn!

Not feeling guilty about what I ate on the heels of a 3.2 mile run in the 100 degree heat, I also took a 2.4 mile walk before bed last night. It was about 3pm when the breeze began to really pick up with intensity. Some gusts as high as 35-40 mph. Still too dry with low humidity, I worry about more fires locally.

This always seems to happen to me at a party. Here I am sitting among a crew of people when I think  I recognize someone. Sure enough 1 hour later I hear the name Sabrina and discover, 'The same gal who plays with a dude named Marino!' Too funny.

Equally funny here in Dallas is how despite the #5 ranking in market size, EVERYBODY knows everybody. Of course I take it a step further. Example:

'So, how did you end up at this party?'

    'I knew someone!'

    'Really?'

    'Of course!'

'Well, we might have some mutual friends...Do you know Kathryn LeBras?'

'Part of the Texas 6 with a December 8th birthday? Of course!'

    'Impressive...How about Michael Vernone?'

'LOL...as sure as his birthday is January 21st! Next?'

'It IS January 21st! What about Melinda Martin?'

'As easy as 1-2-3....December 3rd! Next question?'

'Geez Willie... are you some kind of rain man?'

(Smiling and walking away) 'Kind of...sort of. Nice to meet you Monica and Jill!'

That conversation really happened and occurs way too often. It was good to just be out and about amongst influential people with no axes to grind, content to play catch-up and unwind for the final hurrah of summer.

Of course that didn't stop Karen from trying to set me up with some of her girlfriends. What is it about Richardson girls wanting to play matchmaker? Call me an old school fool. If I see something I like that catches my attention and takes my breath away, I'll tell you. I'm just too picky.

My thanks once again to Dan and Karen and to the Reuters for the wonderful hospitality. That's always a given in the South. Reason why I'm now in year 11 and have no plans to leave anytime soon.

Don't come looking for me today. I'll be somewhere outdoors with a cigar in hand and a diary with pen in the other. Journaling on a fall-like day. Truly heaven!

Make it a great day. Great win for the Aggies! Gig on!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
