    One Crazy Anointing!

    Happy Friday everyone!

Sure enough 2011 is now 3/4 done. The final furlong will fly by and be done before you know it. The month of September didn't end without some hot drama with a cool conclusion...

For the 71st time against all odds North Texas hit the 100 degree mark. This in itself broke the record of 99 set years ago. Indeed it was a scorcher of a hot day. The mercury read about 93 when I prepared for my evening run around the park to the tune of almost three miles.

Immediately I could feel the energy all around me as a cold front was soon to move through. At first it looked like perhaps the clouds would go south and west of Irving. Oh, how wrong I was going to be! This night started to remind me of an April Fools night in 2007 when the dark clouds insisted on following me...

The light show was intense. Sky to ground lightning strikes were happening all around me as I completed the first stretch of my exercise and started to go the jogging route. I could feel the cool breeze in the distance as the sound of thunder started to get louder and closer. No rain but the light show was something to behold. Something to be said about being in the elements when a storm is getting nearer and you can sense the building energy all around.

I was at 2.5 miles into a jog when I saw the bright light flashing behind me and then a huge 'KABOOM!' Made my ears ring for just a moment as I continued and got closer to my residence. I found my pace got a little quicker and my heartbeat being a step faster as it occurred to me that the storm-clouds were indeed following me! Just like 4/1/07 when I didn't heed what the neigbors upstairs were saying...

Then came the moment I could smell the rain in the air. Translation: If a drop hit me, a monsoon was not far behind. The next hint was a wind shear that damn near toppled me over from a clear jogging stance. At this time my run was complete. Quick time out to do some dips and crunches in the gym. 2 sets later I was finished, or so I thought...

There is something to be said about withstanding the elements of life. There is also something to be said about dealing with the force of nature as she unleashes her fury. Talk about going from 0-60 in three seconds flat! I was a sweaty mess until I stepped out of the gym into a maze of water, a 60 mph wind gust, with thunder and lightning all around. Scary, almost tornadic with hints of hail nearby. I remember how much getting hit by hail hurt my forehead. Soaked in the space of five yards as I ran home, which was 90 yards away...

The next 45 minutes were a crazy light show of heavy weather.  The nice thing about this was watching the Weather Channel say 'Irving' 3 times in the space of a half hour. Heavy things going down in my backyard! The temperature fell from 94 to 73 in the space of 15 minutes. Only in Texas...

Often I'll joke about the beauty of getting caught in the rain. Like God giving you a necessary anointing. A cleansing if you will. The sweat was gone and the soak was quite cooling. Like the change of seasons and the cool that awaits North Texans, last night was a welcome reminder of what's to come.

One hour after the rains and monsoons passed, the air felt crisper and the energy of the cool breeze provided me a wonderful second wind. Timely in that a new season for baseball commences today.

Fresh off a historical finish 48 hours ago, the Tampa Rays star a rookie, Matt Moore later this day in Arlington against C.J Wilson. Does Tampa Bay know something no one else does? Shades of Bob Wolcott, a 21 year old who threw a game in 1995 on the Tribe for the Mariners. Me thinks something bad may come of this for the Rangers later this afternoon. I hope I am wrong. This rematch of last year was the series where the road team won each game. David Price and Derek Holland battle tomorrow in Game 2.

Also keeping an eye on how the Yankees handle Justin Verlander as he shall oppose C.C. Sabathia later today in Gotham City. It wouldn't surprise me if the Tigers pull a surprise and take out the Yankees. Looks like there are some slumping starters. This may explain why Jorge Posada will be the DH all series long. No predictions here, except to say the Rays are riding the momentum train and Cliff Lee is now a Phillie. Exactly who has the Rangers played in September?

On the National side I think the Brewers might surprise some people with their arms and bats. Braun and Fielder, Gallardo and Greinke in a 5 game series could be deadly. Happy watching as the post season starts today.

Thank you September, it was real and it was fun.

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
