    The Brady Crunch

Here's the story, of a man named Brady...

Not even 24 hours after the dust settled in Arizona sabermatricians were hard at work pontificating about the career that lied ahead for Cam Newton. Throwing over 400 yards was something Tom Brady, Jim Kelly, and Troy Aikman had never done. So Tom was not one to be outdone. He went about throwing for over 500 yards in a convincing win over Miami. A battle of Wolverine QB's too I might add.

Normally when you hear about a 99 yard play from scrimmage, the first thing I recall was the run by Tony Dorsett on my Vikings 1/3/83. A game Minnesota won 31-27 but to hear that darn Don Meredith say, '99 yards... and a half!' stung deeply. It still does.

To see the pass play from Brady to Wes Welker was even sweeter. The Patriots won convincingly. The Pats and Dolphins set a record for a Monday Night game with over 900 yards of offense combined. That's my kind of game!

We also saw history in the nightcap in the Mile High city. As the Broncos were knee deep in futility with starting QB Kyle Orton, the chant of 'Tebow! Tebow! Tebow!' resonated throughout Invesco Field. John Fox wasn't about to tip his hand either way.

The history was made right before halftime and why not Denver? With the altitude already in the kickers favor it made sense to let Sebastian Janikowski include his name and distance with Bronco Jason Elam and Saint Tom Dempsey with a 63 yard field goal! He had 2 yards to spare. I hope he one day breaks the record. That's one that should stand for a while.

Not that Jason Campbell did anything worthwhile. Looked like Darren McFadden looked to be back at 100% chewing up yards and clock time. I was impressed with their defense. They look to be ready to go to the next level.

Thankful that both the Patriots and Raiders won and covered. Ecstatic about a 12-3-1 Week 1. If I go 8-8 in Week 2 I'll be happy with that. The beauty of the point spread tends to make things a little more crazy, like a River card when playing Texas Hold Em.

Thanks to John Niland for the visit in studio Monday night. Will have him back in October. Always a pleasure. Congratulations also to the Grand Prairie Air Hogs. Champions of the American Association with a dramatic Game 5 win Monday night in Grand Prairie!

I hope to have a few of the players in studio next week with the trophy. Could not happen to a better bunch of guys including ex-Rangers Jason Jennings and German Duran! At one point they were down 0-2 to the Saints!

This day I slept. River duties to come later. Also to arrive later is cooler weather after topping 100 for the 70th time Tuesday. 2011 was survived by me and many others! Hello Autumn and Texas State Fair. Beginning September 30th.

    Make it a great day!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
