Week 1 Recap and Gotham Meltdown.

Normally on a given weekend when I can go 10-3-1 with 2 games pending later tonight, I am as happy as a pig in you-know-what. When two of those three losses happen by way of poor defense on special teams and turnovers that will drive me through the roof!

Yes I was on record when stating the Dallas Cowboys could and should win their game at New York with the Jets Sunday night. For some odd reason the ghost of Brett Favre entered the mind and the play of Tony Romo as a 14 point lead was squandered for the first time ever in Cowboys history-51 years!

After the defense played so well for Rob Ryan despite being very banged up in the secondary, for the whole game, to have nothing to show for it-frustrating.  Sean Lee and DeMarcus Ware came up huge in the 27-24 defeat.

When Tony Romo connected for 66 yards to Jason Witten to the Jets 3 and couldn't at the very least get a field goal, only to fumble-Inexcusable!

Dallas had that game. Dallas won that game...until Tony Romo reverted to the Tony of old in that game at Pittsburgh in 2009, the playoff game with the Giants in 2008, and the fumbled snap in Seattle in 2007. Frustrating as all hell. Now it's on to San Francisco.

Speaking of which, the battle of Stanford Vs. USC NFL style got interesting late as the Hawks pulled to within 2 at 19-17 only to have Ted Ginn Jr. pull a Wolverine and score twice on a kickoff and a punt return in 70 seconds. Back breaker! Inexcusable, and indescribable to see a game you were about to get back into elude for good. Ouch!

I thought the Ravens would win yet had no idea they would create 7 turnovers on the Steelers. Gee, guess who the Seahawks play next week? That will be a severe butt-kicking in Steeltown.

Cam Newton did something Jim Kelly, Troy AikMan, and Tom Brady never have. Throw for over 400 yards in a defeat in his very first game! Sure, Steve Smith may have beaten the secondary twice for two deep throws for touchdowns and I will grant Cam that. He may very well be al that he has been hyped about.

Show me what he does when flushed out of the pocket, tries to throw a sideline pass, throws into double coverage, or gets burned trying to force a hurry. Not saying a great career lies ahead. I'm saying that pick-offs may be an issue for him as teams watch tape. Still an auspicious beginning for Cam.

Special teams hurt the Chargers again yesterday in San Diego. I can also cite 100 million reasons why the Vikings should not have blown a ten point lead at halftime. Donovan McNabb was more like McNada. Not happy with Sunday's start.

I was really impressed with the play of Rex Grossman in Sundays win over the Giants. Cowboys Week 3 opponent on Monday night, Dallas needs to make sure they do not overlook their opponent this Sunday by the Bay. Remember when Dallas-San Francisco WAS the rivalry?

Overall I liked the way handled the multi-tasking of NFL related topics with the sensitivity of 9-11. Cowboys fans will always remember George Teague carrying the flag onto Texas Stadium right before a game with the Chargers 9-22-01. I  also recall that emotional moment.

Tony Romo will get hammered all week for not finishing. Sean Lee was my defensive player of the night. Ted Ginn Jr. for special teams. Simply amazing! If the Patriots and Raiders win/cover tonight it will have been a 12-3-1 week for yours truly.

Hell of a comeback Saturday and sheer domination Sunday in Grand Prairie. Tonight is for all the marbles when the Airhogs and Saints play for the American Association title. Jason Jennings to throw for Grand Prairie.

In studio guest tonight will be one time Cowboy John Niland. Always a great discussion with a book soon to come out. Tonight on 'Monday Night In Texas'. After three weeks away it's good to be back, even if for only an hour.

    Make it a great day!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
