Forgotten February For Good?
Hello and Happy Friday to you!
Wow! Double Wow! Holy Cow Wow! And again, Wow! Still numb from all that I was witness to yesterday in Downtown Dallas. Could not help but think back to all the hype and hope that many Dallasites-myself included-had with the arrival of the Super Bowl.
Then came a hellacious ice storm that crippled the Big D all week long. Major disappointment not to mention all the bad press and talk that North Texas could never handle the ability to host a major event.
Yesterday in Dallas an estimated 250,000 people. Shiny, happy people content to just watch a parade. And the best part? ONLY THREE ARRESTS! Take THAT Vancouver! 15 months removed from hosting a Winter Olympiad, what were you thinking after Game 7? Shame!
You could not have written a better more perfect Kumbaya moment or script for this Maverick team, Don Carter and Mark Cuban, Rick Carlisle, the people of Dallas, and North Texas as a whole.
I often joked back in 2002 when I first moved here that the first thing people thought when you said Dallas was, 'They killed JFK!' No more. Today it's 'Them sumbitches hosted an NBA All-Star Game, World Series, Super Bowl AND NBA Final in less than 18 months!' HELL YEAH!
I knew Kathryn and myself were going to be up close. We had no idea how close! Like right up on the stage. Thankfully the Sports Angel was able to find us as I wasn't playing media on this day. Quite the moment when the Sports Angel, Madame X to the Texas 6, and Mr. Will converged to talk basketball. Can you say 'Sporty, Racy, Information Overload?' I knew you could.
Seeing Dirk smile was awesome. Watching Don Carter take photo after photo was memorable. To hear upwards up 15,000 fans yell 'Thank You Mark!' when it was Cuban's turn to speak as he fought back tears, well worth it.
To see a city I have called home for over ten years shine like the wonder bride on a wedding night and to behave so wonderfully-PRICELESS! Truly Priceless.
A memory for a lifetime. To say nothing about 700 pictures taken and ( I am told) some face time for Kathryn and myself. That is mere gravy.
2011 has truly become a year or reckoning. Now wondering aloud what the second half is beckoning.
My thanks to all who made this day possible. Forever grateful and forever a happy soul.
This day in 1994, the infamous Freeway Chase while another Texas team was defeating another East Coast team. Remember?
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
