    No Candy On the Cain!

Good morning and Happy Friday friends.

I believe I am hearing the strains of despair on the voices of a few of my acquaintances here in North Texas. For one, the assumption that this series is a done deal, all but over. Get that victory parade ready and prepped for the people of San Francisco!

Weren't we thinking the same thing four years ago in June? Where did that land us? Exactly!

This is a best of seven series for a reason. Heck, prior to 1922 the World Series was a best of 9 format! Reason being a team, if worthy enough to be deemed a champion, must able to be victorious over a period of time. One game does make for a winner nor does one loss tell a whole story. The whole run of a given series shall present the picasso in artists terms.

At this time of the season, good pitching will dominate over everything. You saw a great example of that last night in San Francisco as Matt Cain is quickly closing in on some record numbers for scoreless innings. Sitting near 21 as I type. If Matt were to be flawless in his next start he will be very close to surpassing the Babe's prowess of 1917-1918 and Whitey Ford in 1961.

Great pitch command, great defense, not getting too ahead in the count or the lineup, Matt Cain was ON! Ranger fans can now comprehend how the rest of the A.L. felt when Cliff Lee was throwing. Dominant, and imposing of his will.

To C.J's credit he was also doing the same, until one pitch hung high and a blister would end his night. Shades of Jessie Haines in the 1926 World Series for the St. Louis Cardinals. That dink by Uribe was plain ugly. What the Ranger bullpen didn't do for 31 minutes was so ugly it was almost appealing.

Down 2-0 are the Texas Rangers, where they now come home. Home to history and 51,000 screaming fans and a national audience. Home cooking never looked this good. And you hav Colby Lewis, a starter who is slowly making some history of his own with each passing start.

The current taste of baseball in Arlington is like the bad seed of weed. This weekend the Rangers will pull out the weed wacker and remind the people of the Bay Area how the smell of woodsmoke-straight from the bat-will have a sobering effect on the state of California. After the Rangers take all three here in Arlington, we'll be giving new meaning to the term 'joint effort'.

Alas, a day off today. Texans can return to the usual norm of Friday Night Lights and Football. After today, the last three days of baseball in Texas shall play itself out. All the way to November. This while the Cowboys may have to wait until November to finally get a home win!

Over and out in Big D.
