Some Cliffs (on occasion) Will Fall.
Happy Thursday to you.
Oh am I hearing about this from many man people. I am being called many things, to the point of hearing the term 'turncoat' to which I'll take offense. Allow me to be very clear with the following, and I can't believe I said something just like Obama.
Contrary to what you might believe you think or think you know about me, know this. From the day I was born until my last day on earth I am passionate, moody, emotional, creative, verbose, loner-like, and even hyper. The emotions I wear on my sleeve and that will never change.
Years ago I was christened with the nickname 'Rainman'. This is due to choosing to remember things you might deem obscure or unimportant. That's what I do. Something else I am very guilty of is having a hunch, a gut feeling. Occasionally I am wrong, and usually I nail it with conviction.
Earlier this week I was asked by quite a few of my friends and coworkers what I think would happen in the World Series with the Rangers and Giants. The query was slowly starting to piss me off...Royally!
After an hour to give this idea thought, I came up with my response and I said, 'The Home Team wins each game! Just like in 1987 and 1991! Don't be surprised if Cliff Lee gets figured out and he has a bad outing...'
That one phrase has provided me with enough jabs and needles from my friends and coworkers that I already warned them. Stating, 'I don't give a rats hiney about being right.' I just go with my gut instincts.
Is there such a thing as a sure thing in life? Prior to last night where Cliff Lee was concerned you could say 'Yes'. Apparently no one saw this coming. Yet, I say give credit to the men from the National League for working the count on Cliff Lee and erasing a 2-0 lead.
On the other side of the mantle, Timmy the Freak was far from on his game. This was an ugly affair as the Giants held on for an 11-7 triumph. San Francisco made the Ranger bullpen look frazzled and defeated.
In a best of seven series, you anticipate the game like a round in a prize fight between two heavyweights. Only one round was decided and we have yet to declare a winner. Juan Uribe was clutch and ditto for Cody Ross. With no DH in the N.L. one wonders if Ron Washington will stick with Vlad Guerrero in right field the rest of the way. My guess is no.
The Texas Ranger have proven themselves to be resilient all season after tough stretches. Test two will commence tonight with Matt Cain battling C.J. Wilson. This should be a game of ground balls and a 1-0 duel in pitcher-friendly Pac Bell Park.
I am in this for the long haul. This is going to be a 7 game series. Bank on it. These eyes have 40 years of experience and insight. This series will get more exciting as we move along.
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
