From one Cuban to Another.
Seven months in the books and 2009 looming ever closer. Where does the time go? Happy Birthday Mark Cuban!
Looks like Mark Cuban is one of the top five bidders for the ownership of the Chicago Cubs. And why not? A relatively young man with a track record of creating, building, and making better. Go back to January of 2000 and see where the Mavericks stood as a team and look at the fan base now in Dallas, Texas.
To all the stodgy owners of Major League Baseball who say that Mark Cuban is way too progressive for his own good, I have two words for you: Bill Veeck! Yes, that same guy who thought ivory on an outfield wall might work, who thought that fireworks after a Home Run might be exciting, who wasn't afraid to try promotions that were left of center. Bill Veeck was a successful owner in Cleveland and in Chicago. If this is because of Eddie Einhorn and Jerry Reinsdorf having a problem with Mark Cuban as a person, get over it! Cuban would give baseball something it has needed for a long, long time...a shot in the arm!
I did see something rare and interesting yesterday in Arlington. In between drizzle and cooler temps amidst the clouds, I saw two rainbows that formed out toward the third base side of the Ballpark. Blurry at first then more pronounced, my trusty Canon did a real good job at capturing that ten minute moment of a rarity. That was after capturing the start of a wonderful sunset...
Manny Ramirez now a Dodger. Jason Bay now with the Red Sox. Pittsburgh loads up with young arms. Ken Griffey, Jr. goes to the White Sox for Nick Masset and a no-name. Arthur Rhodes gets tossed from a game last night in Arlington. Today he becomes a Marlin. Lucky him! The Rangers stand pat. In retrospect I am okay with that. One should always deal from strength, not weakness...
The X Games returned tonight. I was one of the many who watched Zack Brown have that horrible fall one year ago at the Staples Center. Today he returned to the scene of the fall. Brown hit it and didn't quit it! I know little about how the games are scored except to know that a 540 and a 720 are beyond gnarly and cool. Some of the maneuvers I see these young men do on motorcycle brings back memories of Evel Knievel and Gary Wells. Happy X Games viewing all. Sal Masakela does an outstanding job!
Ron Artest now a Rocket. Ron Artest is ghetto. His words. Now Yao Ming gets to enjoy playing with a ghetto black player. The inference here has to do what happened in Detroit 11/19/04. Many are of the opinion that Ron Artest could help take Houston to the next level. Apparently Yao Ming needs a lesson in getting ghetto-fied. I thought T-Mac was more than helpful in that regard. I never thought Rafer Alston was ghetto lacking. Gee, what next? People like JJ Barea and Eduardo Najera aren't barrio? I question the wording here because all you do is feed a stereotype. Even if it is steeped in truth. Welcome to Houston Ron. You have no problem.
Nice sweep by the Cubbies on the Brew Crew! Outscore your opponent 31-11 and have a team era of 1.61? That's a good omen! There will still be six more meetings between Chicago and Milwaukee before the season is over. Jim Edmonds with multiple homers.
Brett Favre is going to the Vikings. Remember I have been saying this. Watch it happen! There was a report of the Packers offering Brett Favre 20 million to stay retired. Yeah right! Add more fuel to this fire, please!
Scotty Bowman now joins the Blackhawks as a senior advisor. I like this move! Chicago is 2-3 years away from becoming a thorn in Detroit's side.
I have a boatload of pics that will be posted before the end of the day tomorrow. Despite dealing with 103 degree heat, I got quite a few pictures with Rangers and Mariners. Too bad most were doing their batting practice indoors. Rangers lose this night 8-5. More on that tomorrow on more on an ex-Ranger who stuck it to us in the win. Only 17,839 in attendance.
Goodbye July, Hello August!
Over and out in Big D
