All Because of Elvis!
Happy Birthday to the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Well, I almost called it. I stated that a current Ranger would find his way to Gotham City. Had I said an ex-Ranger I'd have hit paydirt. Today the Detroit Tigers sent Ivan Rodriguez to the Yankees in exchange for Kyle Farnsworth. A great deal for both sides as New York had a catching/leadership need and the resurging Tigers needed more relief. Situation win-win.
Three weeks ago I was called a fool for suggesting that Zack Grienke and Ron Mahay make it to Rangerland. Today I feel vindicated as two people no less than Evan Grant and Jamey Newberg commented on their blogs the two ballplayers were within the Texas radar. Rumor was if Elvis Andrus were added it might have happened. My gut now tells me that the Texas Rangers are going to stand pat tomorrow just like in 2004 when it went on to win 89 games.
Barring any crazy collapses this team has second place all but locked up. The what-if game shall now be played as fans in Arlington wonder what might have been had there not been a slew of pitching injuries, or a 9-18 start. Turn those numbers around and you are leading the wild card race in the A.L.
Vicente Padilla went a solid seven innings despite a no-decision. Michael Young hits a sac fly in the 8th as the Rangers get back to four over .500 with a 4-3 victory on a drizzly humid night at the ballpark. Here's a stat that makes you go 'Hmm': The Rangers have the 2nd best record in all of baseball in one-run victories with a 22-12 mark. Only the Brewers at 22-10 have a better record.
The Brew Crew will now try to avert a four game sweep at the hands of the Cubbies as they get pounded this night in Milwaukee 9-2. Chicago with a four game bulge over both the Brewers and Cardinals. Me thinks the beer will be going flat...
Poor Minnesota...Ten times they play a game for the right to take over first place. Ten times they fail miserably. This time at the hands of the Chicago White Sox. Anyone notice that Justin Morneau could be a twin to pro wrestler John Cena? The good people of Illinois are frothing at the thought of another Subway (Eat Fresh!) Series. In the same way the media drooled over the thought of Boston-L.A. in the NBA Finals, I think the people at Fox want to see the Red Sox and Cubs duke it out come October. I'll take either Sox team to lose to the Cubbies and end 100 years of loss and pain.
Trade deadline ends at 3pm CST tomorrow. I am not holding my breath...unless it involves a Ramirez. Manny Happy Returns!
More Hard Knocks to enjoy when Jessica Simpson shows her...smiling face at Cowboys camp this week. I wish my employers let me bring my lover/girlfriends to work. (Rolls Eyes).
Over and out in Big D
