Five Tool Triple Crown Worthy?
I am slowly and cautiously wondering if it is important for parents to have equal time with siblings compared to allotting more time to those who are more in need, be that spiritual, physical, financial, or even emotional? It's great to have Mom visiting and to have discussions that do not border on the roles of mother and son.
Tonight was picture perfect, even weather wise as the mercury dropped to the low 70's despite wind gusts that hit as high as 45 mph. This alone in the month of May is unheard of. We now get to enjoy a weekend of high winds, warm temps, no humidity, and no rain. Equally picture perfect was witnessing a ballgame that took exactly 157 minutes as Kevin Millwood took care of his business in short order and Josh Hamilton had another stellar night.
I used to only think of Ken Griffey Jr. as the ultimate 5 tool player. The same might be said for Josh. Already over 60 rbis and 14 dingers with a .330 batting average. Big Brown gets all the Triple Crown talk for now. I wonder if maybe we do the same in Texas for a certain outfielder? In the event of a sweep, have fun saying 'second place Rangers'. Fireworks show tomorrow night. I was very happy to see Kevin Millwood come off the DL and pick up where he left off with six solid innings. Another sparse crowd at the Ballpark. Say what you want about the anti-Tom Hicks faction. I'll blame the cost of gas. Once again we are back at .500.
Earth to New York: Joba Chamberlain has never been and will never be the Yankees version of Josh Beckett! To make a set-up man a starter is a recipe for disaster. Even when I did reside back east in the 70's I remember spot starts by men like Dick Tidrow, Sparky Lyle, Tug McGraw, and even Grant Jackson. That's all they were, spot starts! This attempt to make over Joba will rank high in the failure factor. Much like when Danny Cater was traded for Sparky Lyle, Sammy Sosa for Harold Baines, Amos Otis for Joe Foy, even Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio! Yikes!
Once again I receive my two free passes to watch the Bombardier 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on June 7th. Only problem is, each year I receive them as a season ticket holder, the Rangers happen to play a home game! Gee, what I am going to choose! No disrespect to the Indy Car league or Nascar, but after hearing so many tales of how tough it is to circumvent the traffic into Ft. Worth on the 114 and then deal with over 100,000 fans my heart couldn't take it. I'll always root for Danica because she's hot and because she's a fighter! Come to think of it, Mom and Danica have a lot in common...
To the weekend and a new month!
Over and out in Big D
