Back in the Race (Card) Again.
I have always believed that there are no ordinary moments in life. Everything seems to happen for a reason. Two current events have me scratching my head. Event number one is the developing story surrounding OJ Simpson, number two the weird ramblings of Donovan McNabb...
Yes 13 years ago OJ was acquitted of double murder. Yes 13 years ago OJ went free. For 13 years many people black and white feel he got away with murder. Mama always said that 'the karma police are always watching'. I can only imagine what they have in store for the Juice...I believe he is being set-up in this case of armed robbery. Lotsa charges and I am guessing a form of payback for the former athlete extraordinaire...
Four years ago Rush Limbaugh was fired over making remarks about Donovan McNabb being overrated and that the NFL wants to see black QB's succeed. He was called racist. He told the truth! Four years ago Donovan McNabb was saying,'Why can't we get past the race thing?'
Funny how tonight on HBO when asked by James Brown, McNabb is quick to make a case for black quarterbacks being under tougher scrutiny than white starters. Further suggesting that Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer get a free ride compared to the man from Philly...
Hmmm.......
Back in 1995 Johnny Cochran had a little saying that was,'If it does not fit, you must acquit!' I believe I just heard a message from Johnny in heaven, "If you're black and life gets hard, go on the attack and play the race card!"
Let me remind you that in 1997 the so-called experts of the NFL were all throwing themselves at Ryan Leaf, not Peyton Manning! The next big thing was a total bust and the egg on the face of the so-called experts was enough to laugh. Remarks about how many endorsement deals Peyton had as opposed to Super Bowl rings. Prior to February of this year, the press was harsh on Mr Manning. Win a ring, they'll never kiss your ass hard enough.
Carson Palmer has gotten a free ride because he's already stuck playing parole officer on a team of mea culpas. Donovan had to endure booing on draft day, three straight championship losses, a poor performance in the Super Bowl in 2004, two injury plagued seasons, fallout from T.O. and now an 0-2 start. Don't blame the media Donovan, Philly chose you! Blue collar folks with an ability to make themselves heard, right or wrong.
I can assure you that men like Mike Schmidt and Bobby Clarke endured boos harsher than what lies ahead. Oh by the way, are you missing your buddy Mr. Garcia? The man who took your team to the playoffs last year who now plays in Tampa? Shut up and start winning Donovan! Save the race card for another day. Nothing surprises me anymore. If McNabb is on the way out, I will not be surprised. Oh yeah, Donovan? I got two more words for you: REX GROSSMAN!
Dallas gets 'Tanked'. Tank Johnson suspended until 11/12th of 2007. After that he will be a Cowboy to handle nose tackle duties. May he leave the glocs at home and avoid trouble when he roams. Not sure how I feel about this signing as of yet. I will reserve comment.
Fall officially begins this Sunday morning. It was a good summer. Now to brush up on my fantasy picks.
Over and out in Big D
