Please Tase this Dumbass!
I'm sure by now you've seen it in the news and on YouTube. A 21 year old University of Florida prank artist attends a conference where John Kerry speaks, is asked some questions outside of mainstream, and for his efforts, Andrew Meyer resists arrest, gets tasered, and generates a bunch of attention to himself. Known for being a hype artist, I am curious why prior to his questions to Mr Kerry:
1. He told a lady behind him to videotape the whole exchange.
2. His demeanor got real low key and quiet after the cameras were off.
3. He overstepped his allotted time.
4. What was the point?
5. Did he get the desired result?
I wish no harm to anybody under any circumstance. No one deserves to be tasered unless an officer deems the sitch life-threatening. I can't help but wonder if Mr Meyer was dumb enough to act like an imbecile to get the desired reaction. I also wondered if maybe the cops were playing a prank on him a la 'Reno 911' and giving Prince Andrew a taste of his own prank medicine.
Seriously, I am in favor of free speech. John Kerry was prepared to answer Meyer's inquiry about the Skull and Crossbones and 2004 recount suggestion.
From what I saw Meyer didn't know how to just shut up and walk away when he was able. To tell someone to have the videocamera on and waiting tells me he wanted a little publicity. I predict when all is said and done we are going to find out a lot more about Andrew Meyer than we care to. I hope Meyer is okay, may Gainesville not get a bad rap, and may future pranksters think twice before trying to be the funny guy at the expense of security, politics, and ignorance for the hope of 15 seconds of fame and Youtube immortality.
Over and out in Big D
