    Health Scare

Sometimes in life there are curves and swerves thrown at you from directions you never knew existed. Outside forces make an appearance that you aren't sure what to make of them, only to disappear once you figure out the problem. This last week has been one I'd rather forget. When I said I was back I had no idea what trouble I was inviting...

Last Friday night I was treated to my first football game in almost four years. That is to say, a game where I didn't have to prepare for telecast or broadcast. Just to be able to hang out and watch the sun set and the bright lights of the gridiron take center stage. Thanks to Dave Jr and Sr for that. Although I saw the Arlington Lamar Vikings fall in Duncanville 23-10, I had a great time. After that everything went straight to hell...

I have been an abuser of junk food for a long time. After watching a thrilling OT exhibition game with the Stars and Lighting Saturday , I did my usual routine of getting a late night bite. Two hours after that visit, I awoke with my chest in a vise grip and my upper back in an aggravated case of acid reflux. Not fun!

This discomfort would continue for three days. The only other time I was this sick in Texas was Fall 2002 after going for a jog and being dumb enough to smoke a cigarette. With the hotter than normal conditions I also got treated to an upper body viral infection. Still not sure what's worse, the reflux or the breathing part. You'll never know just how relieving the taste of Ozarka water and Fruit punch by the pint shall mesh on a tattered soul in need of healing.

Today October 6th marks my first day painfree in a week and have come to an honest but brutal admission. If I don't change my ways, I will not be a happy person. Today and onward I will make every effort to get myself back in that place where once I was productive, growing, and content. I also have a bunch of free taco coupons I will never use again! In other news...

That was a GREAT overtime thrill win in Denver Wednesday night in Colorado for the Dallas Stars. After falling behind 2-0 and being left for dead, I was thinking 'this could be a long season'. How wrong I was! Turco deep to Sydor. Winner! Very nice.

Okay Ranger Haters: Buck is gone! Ya Happy? Can't wait to see the outcry of indifference when the best you can get for a new boss is someone like a Don Wakamatsu. 1996 will NEVER happen again and Doug Melvin will never come back to Arlington. Go ahead and keep wishing for Joe Girardi to be the next Ranger skipper. That's Cubby property, my friend. The manager of the Rangers in 2007 will be a no namer. Too bad Mike Hargrove reupped for two more years in Seattle...Have that scorecard handy when the team resembles something out of a Frisco lineup card.

Terrell Owens returns to Philly this Sunday amid a chorus of boos and hate. This is a must win game for Donovan and company yet I say that Terry Glenn may very well be the guy to wreak havoc on the Philly secondary. This game should be a barn burner. On the fantasy football side, that kid for the Patriots, Maroney is a stud in the making! Expect big numbers from him the rest of the way.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Saturday shall be the 101st matchup of the Red River shootout. Texas vs Oklahoma. Not as much sizzle with Bomar and Vince gone. If the Longhorn secondary finds a way to contain Adrian Peterson, we might see a close ballgame. If Texas loses, will anybody really care? They're still the national champs! I'll take Oklahoma by a 20-16 margin.

As interesting as the 2006 baseball season ended for the Twins winning the Central, they lose just as fast to the Oakland A's. Might this A.L. West team be making a run for the World Series? If so, keep your eyes on Frank Thomas as he thumbs his nose at Kenny Williams. The Twins become only the second club in history to have a 95 win season and get swept out of a playoff. Arizona won 98 in 2002 and the same thing happened. Great starts by the Mets and Cards in their respective match ups this far. Justin Verlander with that 101 mph heat is just too much! Detroit New York now gets interesting...

For the first time in a month this is being typed from home. Now with my health intact, I dare say that a Master shall get postal with all thoughts and comments. Happy belated birthday to my friend Jennifer Gray.

Over and out in Big D
