    Red River Revival.

The time of year when sports run into each other in the hope for top billing. The time of year where the urgency of history tries to match wits with the plot of today. Where David battles Goliath and sometimes the unthinkable can occur. Take your pick of the following...

The story of the day was the 101st revival of the Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl here in Big D. Let me give credit where credit is due. The Longhorn defense found ways to stunt and stuff Adrian P while coming up with the big play in a 28-10 laugher over Oklahoma. The Sooners kept getting in trouble with needless penalties where Texas kept their composure. Hook Em indeed. Lost in that story was the shocker the Razorbacks of Arkansas pulled at Auburn 27-10. Can it be said that Houston pulled a Nutt the size of a grapefruit out of his sack? I saw that game and still can't believe how badly the Tigers played.

Another Tiger team decided to play spoiler and knock the Yankees out of the playoff chase. Kenny Rogers on Friday was the best I have ever seen him throw save his el Perfecto 7/28/94. Oddly, Friday was the first time two starters faced one another having thrown a perfect game. A handy 8-3 victory in the Motor City will keep Bob Seger and Ernie Harwell in the forefront. Yes I believe the Tigers can take the Oakland A's starting Tuesday. Prediction: A-Rod played his last game as a Yank. I see red in his future as an Angel...With the Mets completing the sweep of L.A. I wonder which I want to see more: a reprise of 1968 or 1973 with the finalists. I'll take 1968. It was after all the year of the pitcher. Maybe Jose Feliciano will sing the national anthem again...

The Dallas Stars had their home opener tonight at the AAC against the New Jersey Devils. A reunion for Jamie Langenbrunner and a battle of the Marties. Eric Lindros would hit an insurance goal in a 3-1 victory. Niklas Hagman got things rolling in period two on a wrister to get things started. Mr Brodeur and Mr Turco provided enough saves for Billy Graham to hold a revival on ice. The Stars inprove to 2-0 to a sold out house! Next home game is in two weeks with the Blackhawks. Brendan Morrow had an assist and a goal in what can only be described as a physical night in Big D.

Now we focus on Philadelphia tomorrow afternoon. Expect some fireworks.

Over and out in Big D

    Mr Will
