The Accidental Overdose?
Hello World!
I'm baaaaaaaaccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkk! The summer that wasn't has become the fall that definitely will. So happy to finally be back online after a minor setback. So much to say, and so many items to speculate upon. To wit..
The 1978 Red Sox, the 1995 Angels, the 1951 Dodgers, the 1964 Cardinals immediately come to mind when witnessing exactly what has transpired in the last week in Major League Baseball. The city of Houston has been rejoicing at the misery of Saint Louis for what can only be labeled an ultimate collapse. Nine days ago, an 8.5 game lead in the Central appeared insurmountable, unless you win nine straight while the opponent loses eight of nine. This weekend promises to be very interesting for the Cardinals and Astros to determine who wins the N.L. Central and who takes the wild card. It's interesting to note the demeanor of manager Tony LaRussa when fielding questions about 'choking'...
Same can be said for the A.L. Central. After 159 games the Minnesota Twins have fought and clawed and battled to forge a tie with the Detroit Tigers, the media darling feel-good story of the 2006 campaign. With one weekend left, am curious as to whom shall take this division and battle that team from Gotham City. Mets fans are sad that Pedro will be unavailable for the postseason. I initially thought we might see a repeat of 2000 for the World Series. Now I beg to differ. I'm also wondering if Oakland will FINALLY get past a first round in the playoffs. Without question, Frank Thomas is your comeback layer of the year.
Last week ended rather uneventfully for the Rangers as they closed out 2006 with the Tribe losing. Carlos Lee gets booed in his last game. Kevin Millwood got rocked, and again let me reiterate that GMJ, Vicente, Hank, Carlos, Brad, Kip, Ron, and Buck will not be back in Ranger skivvies in 2007. Jon Daniels will have his hands full this off season. Mike Hargrove should be your next manager...
Terrell Owens in the news for his 'accidental overdose' on Wednesday. I actually feel sorry for this man. When your publicist makes money the issue as to why you 'want to live' that sends a very scary mantra to the minions. Money does not ensure happiness. Anyone remember Christina Onassis? Worth half a billion and she still committed suicide at age 34. I read where TO fired his trainer for revealing too much about his private life. Looks to me like the wrong person was fired. And where was Jerry Jones and Drew (I love this man!) Rosenhaus defending Terrell on Wednesday? Next question!
Possible trouble in Starland...Mike Modano as of today has passed his Captain duties to Brendan Morrow. Morrow was approached about this by Star management. I am curious how Mikey Mo felt about this and if this shall avert a split in the clubhouse. I was at the AAC two nights ago and question just how far this team may go in 06-07. Colorado appears to have their number. Many new faces including Darryl Sydor, a member of the 1999 championship season. Dallas hosts Tampa Bay tomorrow night. I will be there! The regular season shall commence in Denver on 10/04th.
TCU gets bumped, Auburn survives a scare, and for the fans of Spartanville, how in the hell do you blow a 16 point lead in 12 minutes of a game you owned? The #1 Buckeyes will have a test against the Hawkeyes of Iowa and I go on record to state that I think Iowa can do the unthinkable tomorrow! Of course here locally everyone is in a lather for next week's yearly war between Texas and Oklahoma. It also means the State Fair is back. It's been five years since my last visit. I am ready to get my corny dog freak on.
Tonight for the first time in a long time I will be watching, not announcing a high school football game. Coach Dave is a huge alum/fan of Arlington Lamar, now 4-0, and playing a rival with playoff implications. After seven months of baseball, I welcome a change of sport. Pics in the next day or so...
A good friend of mine just enjoyed a birthday in Las Vegas. Imagine her surprise when she spotted Sandra Bullock and hubby in the distance. The ONE time I wish she had a camera...Damn!
Thanks to those of you who continue to offer your unconditional support. I have been dormant with the rants and the posts...That is about to change. I promise!
Over and out in Big D
Mr. Will
