Talent Down Below in Frisco.
While the eyes of the world will focus the next week on Detroit for the hype, hoopla, and festivities of Super Bowl XL, I myself am perfectly content to go back to what I noticed over the weekend, starting Friday night.
Enjoyed another memorable trip to the Dr Pepper Star Center in Frisco. Tony Curtale and the Texas Tornado play hockey like the Broadway show, 'Cats'. Consistent entertainment each time, non stop action, vocal fan support, and of course the perfunctory victory. A strong crowd cheered their every move as the Tornado rolled 4-1. Karl Sellan and Brett Blatchford have progressed beautifully in the last two seasons.
I was more thrilled to have watched Lyon Messier play in person. Note to the NHL: You have so much damn talent in the lower ranks about to head your way, be sure you are able to fully utilize the promotional availabilities. You can expect this NAHL team to become the first to 3-peat! Talent central!
Not to be outdone, the bar on Saturday had a strong crew of vocal Stars fans cheering and booing everything they did/didn't do en route to Marty Turco's first win ever against the hated/respected Red Wings. Does anyone else find ot weird that the moment the All-Star announcement was made last week, the Stars win three straight by way of the shootout?
Mike Modano's winner was nice but Jussi Jokinen now 8 for 8!!! His approach is the same on each shot. No one can stop it. Where does the over/under lie on this young Finn man? With an assist by the Mighty Ducks spanking the Kings, Dallas enjoys a healthy seven point lead. I will be back on the 1st to watch the Predators...
Saturday was also a time to reflect on a sad note in history. Twenty years ago a space mission ended up in flames. The Columbia had a great crew of seven astronauts, including Christa MacAuliffe. I saw the explosion. That incident has haunted almost as badly as what we witnessed 9-11th. To the families of those who lost loved ones: I remembered...
The Master now predicts that a whole lot of bandwagoning is about to begin for the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars. This means good business for myself so I say,'Hell Yeah!' Eight straight for Avery's boys. I am reminded of what can potentially happen when a collective group of people 'buy into a system'. Seems every night a different Mav steps it up. If Dirk is off, Josh Howard commands, if Josh is off, Devin steps up, if Sir Harris is woozy, lay it on Erik Dampier...you get the idea...
To the people of the American Airlines Center: Do you get hazard pay for all the turnaround time/special events? Friday night Lenny Kravitz and the Rolling Stones perform. Saturday night the Stars/Mavericks both play and win as you turn ice to hardwood. Top that off with a Sunday matinee kickoff of the AFL and the Dallas Desperadoes. Four events in 45 hours-DANG!!!!!
Cowboy fans: 12 years ago today when you completed the back to back on that team from Buffalo. Emmitt came alive from a 13-6 deficit in the second half after Thurman coughed the ball up en route to a 30-13 victory. Saturday was the ten year anniversary of Pittsburgh's only defeat in the big gane at Arizona 27-17.
Back to bed...Make it a great day! See You in Las Colinas!
Over and out in Big D
