Who Was That Mermaid?

Hello and Happy Saturday from chilly North Texas.
Having spent a part of the evening out and about with friends last night it quickly occurred to me that my teeth were dancing like castanets and my fists were balled in fury as a way to offset the teeth of a north wind that drove temperatures down to the upper 20's early this morning. Brrr!!!!
With little planned except for a Mavericks game later in the day I was content to watch some golf on the television. Each February for about 24 years I have followed the hijinx that always seems to accompany the AT&T Pro Am on the Monterey Peninsula.
Certain golfers have had success there. A wonderful mix of celebrities and pros. It helps that Tony Romo is playing alongside Tiger Woods. It also means when the time comes that David Feherty does his interview with the two, Dallas will be represented by a count of 67%. That's a good thing.
Also for 20 years there has been another reason to watch: Bill Murray!
I hate to admit this but I have never seen the movie 'Caddyshack'. I know Bill Murray plays a hilarious character in the flick. I know because it seems we hear fan requests for a reprise of said character. Clay Spackle I believe is the name. Initially I thought maybe they were poking fun at 'Ground Hog's Day'. That movie I have seen a few times!
So I'm all set to veg out in from of the television and watch golf. Too cold to do anything else. I see where Phil and Tiger might make a move before the weekend is over. I see Ray Romano cracking jokes about his wife. I see Andy Garcia and Giants hurler Matt Cain. I see 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh.
And then I saw Bill Murray. Oh my God! What these eyes saw belied my visual sensibilities.
The Monterey Peninsula is a very special place of lane considered by many to be God's Green Earth. You will have days of sun, wind, spritz, and great golf courses. Ft. Ord is near by and yes by all means do enjoy the 17 Mile Drive going high and far. Breathtaking.
Suffice to say Bill Murray has come a long way with his golf game and his career as a comedian and as an actor. It seems each year I tell myself, 'there is no way Bill Murray outdoes himself!' Yet he does.
Wearing an outfit that looked like something out of a combat mission with the Navy Seals. An outfit that had the world 'camouflage' written all over it. This get up was green and leafy and an eye opener! How the hell could anyone concentrate on the course? Even Rickey Fowler would have issues in addressing the ball if Bill Murray were his caddy. Hilarious all the same!
Somewhere in the last 20 years Bill Murray got better at his golf game. Once upon a time he was atrocious. He got lessons, he got schooled and he got good. That S.O.B.was making some unbelievable bunker shots and putting like a pro at the U.S. Open! I don't know how in the hell he did it. But he did.
Something else Bill Murray has been good about: playing to the fans. Yes, the gallery will explode for Tiger, Tony, and Phil this weekend. To Bill Murray's credit he has always done well to appease fans young and old. Must have been those days under the hot lights in the 70's when 'Saturday Night Live' was the show to watch alongside Jane, Chevy, Laraine, Garrett, John, and Dan.
Or maybe he found Mrs. Lubner under deep terrain and found a hot mermaid after a few 'forget me not' noogies. Either way, that outfit was a trip! I'm still chuckling about it now hours later.
Trail Blazers in town tonight. I'll be there! I will also be podcasting live. See the link above. A great time had downtown Friday with some friends. Daren and Darren: Thanks gents! That was fun.
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
