Sunsplash and a Mad Dash.
Hello and Happy Tuesday everyone.
Just what the doctor ordered, 48 hours of wet and rainy weather for North Texas. Anywhere from 2-5 inches might fall locally to help elevate the lake levels to an amount for sail ability and respectability. Things have been dry for too long. I welcome the respite. In wintertime cloudy and warm weather is your friend for the restaurant industry. Cloudy in the summertime too as you shy away from the lakes...
Here I was all set to just sit back and lay low last night. Maybe watch some NFL Network and play a new DVD set of season 1 of 'Heroes' (some series on NBC from 2005 server Will turned me onto) when the phone rang. This is a conversation very familiar to me since 2001.
'Hello?'
'Dude, I got two extras. Call a date get a buddy you're going to watch the Mavs! Ready?'
'Yeah man, I'll be right on that. Will-Call or meet up in the usual location?'
'Call me bro!'
'Done bro!'
Just like that I am off to another night of sports in my second home, the American Airlines Center. Sports continues to be a source of theatre I have yet to tire of since a lad. I'll probably die at a sporting event with the camera in the click position. That too is fine by me. There are worse ways to go.
What followed next was my usual round of texts and calls to friends.
'Y or N?'
'Showing houses babe, sorry.'
'Family in town. raincheck?'
'Stuck at work. Next time!'
'Okay! What time and where?'
And just like that another convert to Mavericks or Stars is born. Call me weird but it absolutely galls me when a ticket goes unused for an event. Kind of like an empty seat at church to hear the message of God. Okay, maybe a stretch but you get the gist.
Ever since the American Airlines Center came to be for sports on 10/30/01 I have made more visits there than an octogenarian at weekly confession.
In a way, what happens at the AAC stays there. Never a dull moment and the bottom line is getting bang for your entertainment dollar. The Mavericks never disappoint. Stars are now 4 years removed from greatness. They will be back...
For the second time this month I got to enjoy a Mavericks-Suns game up close and personal. Shawn Marion went off on his ex-teammates!
We still applaud the efforts of Steve Nash even as a Sun. We also smile when that Gortat dude makes a nice play once in a while. However, the fans come to see 4th period magic. Dallas did not disappoint on this night.
Pal Lee'a got to her enjoy her first game in person. At first she was like, 'yeah right.' By game's end she was like, 'This is crazy!' Think Chevy Chase clapping his hands in 'Vacation' and you get the idea.
Part of my job at games is to ensure that whoever is with me is getting the full effect of all the sensory overload. I love it! I also try to pass along that love and passion. The very same passion Mark Cuban brought to North Texas all those years ago as a fan at Reunion Arena.
Mavericks win. We all leave happy and I now tackle the new worl week with renewed vigor. Amen.
Make it a great day and bring an umbrella!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
