One Rare Holiday Meeting
Hello and Happy Thursday everyone!
Just got the word that this night I get off and can now go about invading the AAC for some hockey and basketball for the next two evenings. Heck for the last decade downtown Dallas has been my home away from home! More on that a little later.
It only took two weeks but I am finally getting around to watching and enjoying some Bowl games of the collegiate variety. Last night you had two teams meeting for the first time in quite a while. How long ago had it been? Well, consider that Richard Nixon was president, the Beatles still had not broken up, Monday Night Football was about to make a debut and take Mary Tyler Moore off the top slot, The NFL was about to have a merger, and Jim Morrison/Jimi Hendrix were still alive albeit barely: 1970!
Most people here in the South will tell you exactly where they were the night of 1/4/06 when 'The Game of the Decade' took place. Last night's Holiday Bowl meeting with the Longhorns and Bears had little if any of the pomp and circumstance of 6 years ago yet it was a fun match to watch nonetheless.
Part of my interest lied in the fact there was a player for the Longhorns named David Ash. Back in my high school days I went to school with a David Ash when living in the OC. In fact, years removed from that USC-Texas game a few of my classmates were a future USC alum named Rex Moore, Darren Medley (Son of Righteous Brother Bill Medley), and Jim Fregosi Jr. Thus I wondered if there was any relation.
Texas won the game going away. It then occurred to me the reason these Bowl games are so spread out over the course of the month might be in direct correlation to time away from work or families. I was glad to just sit and stretch in front of the old telly.
Terrell Owens to be a player and part owner of the Allen Wranglers? Really? Man, Allen has come a long way, haven't they? I'd go watch once for at least one game...
Time to throw on some Stars green and lose myself for awhile. It's been a while. Hope the Mavericks can bounce back. 0-3 sounds rotten to me!
Make it a great day. 60's and 70's forecast locally through Sunday in North Texas. Kewl!
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
