Dear Coach: What The...?
It was a fun weekend for getting out and to enjoy some friendly repartee amongst friends. I hear that term 'Sunday Funday' amongst my friends here in the Big D. 48 hours ago the aforementioned term was applicable.
The last time I made the trek to the Zen Addison was February 2006. Alli had a birthday party and I was only too happy to say hello to a friend. It was a cold rainy day with no outdoor seating. Sunday I discovered that there was a vast outdoor area to sit, eat, drink, smoke, and listen to music.
Great to run into some friends. Sheri and Kathryn always keep the mood professional yet light...Of course, one reason I'm forever ambivalent about going out is because of running into familiar faces of new or old on the work front. It happened again Sunday in Addison. The camera was kept busy.
Nearing 6pm it was time to watch the 5th game of the I-35 series. After the first seven minutes, I was confident that the Boys in Royal Blue were about to turn things around. Leads of ten and fifteen points are insurmountable in a playoff, right? Wrong!
In what I can only describe as an absolute 3rd period collapse I watched the Spurs birthday boy Tim Duncan completely lay an egg with only 4 points. I also saw a 4th Spur pick up the slack. George Hill was all over the floor making the shots, penetrating the perimeter, and being an absolute pest. Dallas had no answers. To not make a basket for almost 8 minutes in the 3rd period-inexcusable.
In the 4th period I witnessed three missed lay ups by Jason Kidd. This boggles my mind as the gun sounded. Despite the inconsistency on Dallas' part, the margin of defeat was a lousy three points 92-89!
There is no way the Mavericks bounce back from a 3-1 deficit. It just doesn't happen in the NBA. Another season with supposed promise is about to go by the wayside.
I wonder aloud why Rick Carlisle has not given Roddy Beaubois playing time? Why were Caron Butler and Brandon Haywood seated for long stretches in the 4th period? How come no one can be a better buffer for Dirk Nowitzki? Frustrating as hell!
Despite the Maverick defeat and imminent bump from the playoffs, the Crawfish boil at Zen Addison was a fun time and a packed house. My thanks to those for the hospitality and to brother David for the cigar hookup. All the posse said, 'Macanudo-Magnificente!' Who am I to disagree?
Not looking forward to Game 5 later this day. UGH! End the madness. Somebody...anybody!
Over and out in Big D
Mr. Will
