Heat Of the Moment
It occurs to me that sometimes in life history has a way of repeating itself to varying degrees. For example, if you experience a really stormy weather day, a discussion may ensue as to which natural disaster you have endured in memory. If it's summer time you always hearken back to the year you best remember that was tough on the psyche and the skin when the heat arrived.
I remember I was a 16 year old kid in 1980. I was residing a little north of Chicago. I remember spending alot of time on Lake Michigan soaking up the sun, listening to WLS AM Radio, and getting introduced to heavy metal by way of Krokus, AC/DC and Black Sabbath. Good Lord did I listen to Black Sabbath! Heaven and Hell was a great album, and I was constantly watching 'General Hospital' with the lady friends as Luke, Laura, and Hutch were the big story.
That same year the TV series Dallas had a question about 'Who Shot J.R?' I remember Dallas Texas for a much different reason. Back then I would always awake to the sounds of NBC's 'Today' show and watching Willard Scott describe the weather while saying 'Happy Birthday' to all people who topped 100 years old.
It was about July 1st when I remembered that North Texas was about to ge through a stretch of some 69 days of topping 100 and not going below 80 at night. I believe the hottest day of the year was July 4th when the mercury topped 113. Chicago topped 100 that Friday. I just happen to remember.
The weather that North Texas is enjoying this week is what we normally get in late August. Today North Texas topped 100 for the 2nd straight day. In Frisco there was an 11am ballgame with the Roughriders. There were some kids who needed to be attended to when the high reached 102 at 2pm.

I caught a break at 4pm when going to meet up with a buddy for coffee. The clouds gathered along the 360 and 183 freeways, then came the rain. A few lightning bolts and a quick deluge to cool things off to 90 degrees. By 4:20 the clouds went southwest and things heated up again.
My friend Sara says it is very important to drink fluids big on electrolytes. I'll take her at her word.
The next ten days in North Texas will be a test. I got my water jug ready.
Time for a late night walk!
Over and out in Big D
