Light Sabre Envy...
Rarely do I get a tag along buddy to attend a sporting event and keep me on an even keel. This night would be a welcome exception. What a difference a year makes...
This day in 2007 the eyes of the world, that is, everyone outside of the USA, had a keen interest in all the hockey talent that awaited to play a non contact high scoring game at the AAC. The All-Star game, that is.
It was an interesting three days of history, athletes, celebrity run-ins, and media folks. With fans from pro wrestler Edge to ex-Ranger Kevin Mench in attendance, my camera was busy for all three days. The real treat was in seeing Sid Crosby two days later in a shootout when the Penguins made a rare visit to Dallas...
Another team made a rare appearance to Dallas this night. The Buffalo Sabres, the team that Dallas defeated in 1999 to earn their first and only Stanley Cup. Certainly the rivalry between both these cities is a fun one. You can speak about the two Super Bowl wins in '92 and '93. You can even yap about the Columbus Day larceny committed last October 10th. Anyone out there remember the days of Ernie DiGregorio, Bob MacAdoo and the Braves?
This Sabres team a little less potent with the departure of Daniel Briere to the Flyers. Still a team with alot of history. Derek Roy would provide all the power with two goals in a 2-1 Sabre victory. I'm no Sabrematrician, yet can state unequivocally the Stars had NUMEROUS opportunities to tie/win this game, only to exhibit puck possession that was piss poor at best.
My friend informed me that once upon a time she dated a minor league hockey player. Her knowledge of the game impressed me. Happily married now, we were once coworkers back in the day. She wanted to catch a hockey game. I was happy to oblige. She shall remain anonymous...
At one point there was an 'Animal House' clip of John Belushi. Hard to believe that, if alive, Belushi would have turned 59 today! The pride of Wheaton Illinois lives in the hearts of many...
Still sick, awaiting the warmer weather to arrive this weekend, Thank God!
