    Where's My Mojo?

When I look back at 1981 (and all that I was doing in the name of experimentation) it amazes me even now just HOW we went about getting our information, much less the events of the day. If you weren't born this was the period right before the birth of MTV...Yes MTV will be 25 on August 1st...

March 30th Ronald Reagan survives an assassination and the 'Zero Factor'. Any president prior to Reagan who was elected in a year that ended in zero was killed in office. I remember one psychic (Jean Dixon) who predicted that Reagan would be shot yet survive. The shooter, David Hinckley, did so to profess his love for Jodie Foster. Good thing Paris Hilton wasn't around back then.

May 13th The Pope gets shot by Ali Agca. Pope Paul survives and years later met him and forgave him.

August 1st MTV was born, three days after a wedding viewed by tbe Billions with Charles and Di. I was in the OC watching the proceedings at 4am PST. This day July 3rd holds a special place in my heart. I have my long lost brother to thank for that.

March of '81 I was given a birthday present by Walt. A book that was written by Danny Sugarman called 'No One Here Gets Out Alive'. A story about the Doors and Jim Morrison. Morrison was found dead July 3rd 1971 in Paris at the age of 27. He lived quite the life, oh yeah. I enjoyed reading his story so much that I read and reread the book until the date of his anniversary and passing.

It had been suggested in subtle thoughts that perhaps his death was faked and that he would somehow 'reappear' on this his ten year anniversary 7/3/81. Of course it didn't happen.

A quick listen to the song that has the 'Mojo Risin' reference, you can definitely hear the strain in his voice from all the chain-smoking and all the other pick-me-ups. Imagine if the 60's had Monster, Boo-Koo, and Tunnel energy drinks! Imagine a Grateful Dead show that went for 24 hours...

I have never shared this with anyone until now. Yes sports are my first love, music is a close second. Despite my Republican leanings, two people who have intrigued me all my life. If I were able to have ten minutes to interview each person, they would be Jim Morrison and John F Kennedy. Jim for his lyrical genius and JFK for his 'Essence of Camelot' in the 60's.

The clock keeps a ticking, and faster as the years pass. Jim Morrison is no doubt raising hell in heaven with Jimi, Janice, George, Jerry, and John. 35 years in a blink of an eye! For a moment in time a certain seventeen year old really believed that the spirit of Mr Mojo Risin would reappear.

Like most other things at that point in my youth, twas a pipe dream. A pipe that I hit often...and exhaled coughing often too!

Over and out in Big D

    Mr Will
