    Defending Your Fallen Teammate

If you failed to set your clocks back an hour yesterday, guess what? You've been an hour early all day. That could be a good thing in my industry. Restaurant folks seem to think they can get sha-la-laid, catch last call, get their freak on, sleep an hour and do it all over again. I try to warn them.

Quite a few close calls in college ball yesterday! I wasn't shocked that USC lost. I was miffed that Texas Tech followed Nebraska's footsteps in blowing a lead. Let me be clear here: I am not a fan of the Longhorns. Begrudgingly I am a fan of Colt McCoy. He has great instincts on the field, and yes he fun to watch, I grant you that. If Texas isn't careful they will suffer a second defeat before season's end. If I were a betting man I'd put the honor on Texas A&M, the team that wears that bank advertisement on their helmets-ATM...

After losing a tough game to a rival a day earlier, you wonder just how the team shall do against an interdivision rival. Saturday the L.A. Kings rolled into Dallas trying to erase two 4-1 losses at home two weeks ago. Before the game I discovered that I can go down to the ice and take photos of the Stars and their opponent during shootaround. Lots if fans putting their cameras and noses to the glass.

With Halloween a few days away, the Dallas Stars Ice Girls got into the spirit by being in costume. Ice girl Katey(left)I have known for almost four years, she was nice enough to stop for a photo. Thank you my Capricorn extraordinaire! As for the game itself...

Again the Stars would begin this night in a lackluster fashion as the Kings would set tempo most of the first period. It was also rookie Mike Smith's second start for Dallas. He began strong. The Stars drew first blood and had a 1-0 lead after one. 45 seconds into the second frame, Rob Blake would connect on a power play goal from the blue line to knot things at 1.

Things got a little testy after Ed Ott got into a brawl with Lee Kostopoulos, breaking an ankle when he fell. Ott now out for two months. Not ten seconds later Matthew Barnaby put down his gloves and started duking in response to his fallen teammate. Stu Barnes would put the Stars ahead 2-1 with 45 seconds left in the second frame.

In the last period, Kostopoulos would connect against goalie Smith at the 13 minute mark before Jeff Halpern swatted the winner past a fallen Mathieu Garon. In defense of the Kings, their record sucks at the moment, but I am guessing they turn things around before too long. That group of Avery, Blake, and Conroy are too much when they're on. Stars finish October 9-2 with 18 points. The Blues come to town Wednesday night. That's the color alot of the Dallas players shall be. Last night's affair was a bruiser. November brings a nice road stretch prior to a visit by the New York Islanders.

    Make it a great week!

Over and out in Big D
