Does anyone find it funny that LeBron James has the same birthday as Tiger Woods? In light of what Tiger has put himself through in eight months, has LeBron James caused himself irreparable harm to his name, reputation, and standing as a player in the NBA courtesy of his financial handlers?
What I do take issue with is this idea, this notion that somehow a ballplayer is much more important than the game. Michael Jordan never did that, nor did Larry Bird or Magic Johnson. What is about to transpire tonight shall be a slap to the face of the NBA, its fans, its sponsors, and to the traditions about what the league is all about.
Some moments in life will give a person perspective on what is really important. When you see a bunch of Indian ballplayers (who saw what happened) drop to a knee and start to pray, that is something. That moment of impact was one of the quietest moments I have ever witnessed at a sporting event. It made me wonder what the fall was like for wrestler Owen Hart. I also thought back to the 55 foot fall Zack Brown endured and walked away from in 2007 at the Summer X Games.
Being able to envision all that can theoretically happen for good or for bad is scary enough. I mean, you bring warm humid from the south heading north and then combine that with cooler dryer air from the north moving south and BANG! A recipe for some crazy stuff. You'll know you're in trouble when out of nowhere a big red splotch of weather suddenly appears on the radar of a weather-map.
