Vanderbilt gets to deal with a high octane Houston offense and freshman Quarterback John O'Korn. Averaging 34 points a game O'Korn fired for 26 touchdowns against 8 interceptions with an equally explosive receiver in Deontay Greenberry. 76 catches 1,106 yards and ten touchdowns.
A victory for 36 year veteran Dan McCarney in his first ever visit to the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park. An even bigger victory for the North Texas program after gaining only its third trophy in their 100 year history.
Go back to December 7th when Missouri had a meeting with Auburn. That other Tiger team with a crazy finish over Alabama a week later. The Tigers of Mizzou were Pearl Harbored in an aerial shootout to the tune of 5-42. Had Missouri won you may have had a different matchup for a BCS title game with Florida State.
There's a little history here too. The last time these two teams met was in the Capital Bowl of 2005-Nick Sabans last game as Tiger coach-a game Iowa won 30-25 when Drew Tate threw a 56 yard pass to Warren Holloway for a touchdown as the game ended.
Another Armed Forces Bowl has come and gone. Once again Ft. Worth shined brightly on a really cold sunny day. If there is a better way to close out a year to welcome a new one, I'd like to know.
