Chick Magnet!
Photo By Will Martin "Mr. Will"
(May 18th I lost a great friend, companion and teacher in unconditional love. Fifteen years young and in alot of pain the last year of his pooch life. This is for him.)
CHICK MAGNET (Tigger 9/11/99-5/18/14)
Fifteen Years in a time that was a roar.
Most alive and ready to play in a time of tug of war.
Mightily you fought despite the cough and enlarged heart.
May 18th you went away and barked into heaven's door.
Anywhere you went you caused surprise and intrigue.
The women who stopped to eye you said, 'Definitely his own league'.
Quick to catch a stick within the confines of a lake.
When the Cowboys came on TV your eyes made no mistake.
Quick to defend your master to the end
Despite all the lies and the drunken tales she'd defend.
Loyal you stood by the side of your Filly on target.
Forever the Jack Russell terrier and iconic Chick Magnet.
Most alive when on the run.
When it came time for a belly rub we knew you were done.
Close to my hip with insomnia when Momma was away.
Your bark was loudest when she came back to stay.
That lust for life was evident as you exceeded the average.
Happiest you were in water, on a boat, or under the bridge.
When the door opened with leash in hand and time for a trip.
Oh the many things you witnessed relationship after relationship.
I know you wag your tail real hard hard from high above.
The fact is you taught the real lesson of unconditional love.
You never knew a bad day even when in pain.
To see you sleep so much toward the end it was only a matter of when.
Words will never truly tell the many lessons you have passed.
Every time I babysat you the time went way too fast.
For every pooch you tried to smooch with that lilting puppy swag.
To the hubcap you dared to bite while moving with this ass in drag.
You knew when things were going well or if mama was in trouble.
Able to look past all the cruising and boozing content within the poochie bubble.
The time has come to call a spayed and spayed.
One can only fathom the amount of doggie love you'd have laid.
Quick with the Trigger dearest Tigger you will be missed.
You overcame all the stupidity of those humans perpetually pissed.
A shining light from day to night to top the popularity list.
Ever freaky when nearest the squeaky and the joy that it dismissed.
The days grow quieter as Mama heads out to the lake.
The old life of the party now realizes her own mortality is taking shape.
While that beat up truck comes home with the trauma drama draggin shit.
Even she knows you were the real chick magnet.
Have you seen your lookalike? The doll with the similar eye?
Brown of color and staunch of size looking ever so ready and sly?
As football season gets near and the games oh so dear.
Weird it will be to not have you on my knee with the Silver and Blue on TV.
You barked at Tony and moaned at the sight of Jerry.
Was there something you knew that we didn't?
Quick to jump when a touchdown was scored
Or leave the room when the opponent intercepted once more.
Maybe animals also suffered with the Silver and Blue.
If there is such a thing as football in heaven
I hope the bar is referred to as JackRussell#7
Where the bowls are always better and bigger
Where the drinks are stronger and longer
Where the games go on forever
And an owner will one day reunite with pet
Look down on life with no regret.
God alone knows when that date is set.
Thank You Tigger. You were the ultimate Chick Magnet.
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
