One Sloppy Blowout In Ft Worth!

TCU coach Gary Patterson if nothing else will never be content with the status quo.

There is always a time and a place and a way to go about handling your business.

Even if you outscore the opponent by a whopping 55 points.

Yet Coach Patterson was not happy after the 82-27 drubbing of the Texas Tech Raiders (3-5, 1-4) before 45,122 sunburnt fans (the mercury reached 88 Saturday).

The Horned Frogs now 6-1 with an eye on Morgantown straight ahead.

"I don't think we played well all game," said Patterson. "Fortunately for us, we didn't play very well and we won a ballgame. That hasn't happened around here in the last two years."

The first quarter alone accounted for 512 combined yards for both teams. TCU would score two late field goals from the leg of Jaden Oberkrom for a 37-20 halftime lead. Essentially a 51-7 run after Webb Davis and Texas Tech closed the gap to 31-20 nearing halftime. Thirty points in an eight minute span amidst a flurry of turnovers.

"If we would have played our best, it would have been tough to beat them and we didn't do that," Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury said. "You beat like that, there's not a lot of words."

Hard to believe that ten years ago it was Texas Tech who put the drubbing on TCU when Sonny Cumbie was the Red Raiders quarterback. Saturdays output of 82 points the most in the Horned Frogs history. Easily surpassing a 69-0 game Coach Patterson enjoyed in 2011 over New Mexico. That loss to Tech in '04 the worst in Coach Patterson's 15 years at TCU.

"I know Sonny obviously very well," Kingsbury said. "And coach Meacham does a tremendous job with the scheme. Just overall, incredible that they've done."

Trevone Boykin certainly will now hear the whispers of the H word. Heisman worthy after his seven touchdown 433 yard performance over Texas Tech. In one day matching his total for all of 2013 and for the season a lofty total of 21 touchdown strikes against only three interceptions.

Some week long disagreements about whether or not the Horned Frogs and Boykin were ready to play. This according to Coach Patterson. Trevone would have none of it.

"No, I felt perfect," said Boykin.

"I think everybody was pretty amped up. These are one of the teams we haven't beaten in the Big 12, and it was just time to pay those guys back."

It was the first win for TCU since a 12-3 win in 2006 in Ft. Worth. The first win in three tries against Texas Tech since coming into the Big 12.

    Records Set

82 points the second most points by a team in a Big 12 game. Tis the most in a game against a Big 12 team since the 77-0 drubbing of Texas A&M by Oklahoma in 2003.

    785 total yards offensively.

Seven touchdown passes in a game is the new school record.

TCU's 82 spot are the most points since Oklahoma State pinned an 84-0 whitewash on Savannah State 9/1/12.

For the fourth straight week TCU sets a series scoring record against an opponent in victory or defeat.

Trevone Boykin's seven strikes went to Josh Doctson twice for 51 and 5 yards, Deante Gray twice for 24 and 92 yards, Cliff Murphy (8 yards), Ty Slanina (57 yards), and Emanuel Porter (12 yards) on a 22 for 39 afternoon and playing only three quarters.

Aaron Green got the ball rolling with a 62 yard run after a 57 Kenny Williams connection from the arm of Davis Webb (15-30-300-2-1).

Aaron Green and Trevorris Johnson each rushed for 105 yards while Deante Gray led all receivers with 176 yards on four catches.

Next week comes a tough match with the Mountaineers of West Virginia. Clint Trickett will try to work the Horned Frogs defense into a lather followed by a visit from Kansas State and Bruce Snyder. That 33-31 loss in Manhattan still stinging in the craw of the Frogs.

October now history. TCU made it and will continue to if the winning and consistency progresses.

For the moment lets say those words Gary Patterson does not want you to utter. Heisman Hopeful and National Championship.

It's in the conversation for now.

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
