A New Medical Term!
Just in time for Valentine's Day on the heels of Fat Tuesday. Life sometimes can deal you a hell of a hand or make you ask why luck runs rampant for others. When clouds appear rain is likely. If a guy in a suit approaches you in April it's probably Tax Time. When an athlete past his prime provides a show that takes you back to pre Y2J days you come up with a new term or slogan.
With a 1 week break between games for the Dallas Mavericks-and not 1 player representing this weekend in Houston-Rick Carlisle welcomed a team that has lost 18 straight in Dallas. The last time the Sacramento Kings won a game in Dallas go back to this very month a decade ago.
There is little that is more fun to watch than an athlete with the hot hand. It may begin innocently enough as a couple of shots go in. Then the impossible happens and you are witness to an unconscious performance. This was the case Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center. Vnce Carter and the Mavericks hitting threes like a duck taking to water.
Add a little history like Vince Carter passing Larry Bird for #29th all time in scoring. A 26 point night with Vinsanity! That's the best example of good gravy a fan can enjoy much less ask for.
While watching this onslaught continue under the hot hand of Vinsanity it dawned on me that Sacramento might have fallen victim to a new killer of an insidious disease. We know what can happen with the hardening of the arteries. What happens when you have no defense for the onslaught of threes?
Well...
Last nights dethroning of the Kings created a new medical phenomenon: CARTERial Sclerosis: Hardening of the passing lanes in conVinceing fashion with a few BIRD droppings for remembrance sake.
It happens in threes. The AAC could have been renamed the EKG. It would not have revived the future Supersonics :)
Shawn Marion and Vince Carter have been the subject of trade talk for the last month or so as we near the deadline February 21st. Do I foresee an imminent move for VC? I really don't. Carter provides so much for the rookies and kids on the Mavericks. As the 6th man Vince has produced.
In one week the second half of the season will begin. The Mavericks will host the Orlando Magic on the eve of the trade deadline. We find out pretty quickly whether or not Dallas will be buyers or sellers at trade time. Not that it's going to matter. So long as this team continues to play competitively (regardless of what the record dictates) my guess is that the Bank Of Cuban will stay intact and do nothing.
People of Dallas: For 12 years you were spoiled with playoff basketball. Take a year off. For one night enjoy the new medical term I furnished.
Have a hearty and safe Valentines Day. Back to the Magic in one week.
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
