Fair Enough!

Hello and Happy Saturday everyone from sunny and mild North Texas.

A cold front shot through the Lone Star state early yesterday to make for cooler, fall-like weather. Not that I mind. By the middle of next week we will be back to the norm here. Sunny, hot and near 90 from now until the beginning of October with a rain squall and an occasional cool breeze to keep things honest in-between.

Locally we give a birthday kudos to current Cowboy Quarterback Tony Romo. 32 years young today. Hard to believe that come September 5th it will mark nine years that Tony has been on the roster. It will be his seventh year as a starter. From this point onward it can be theorized that the climb for Dallas might be a downhill one based on age and the strength of schedule that awaits him in the new season. We're still five months away. For now a Happy Birthday shall suffice. No doubt Tony wil be tearing it up on a golf course somewhere.

Another birthday is going to be honored and noticed today and each day for the next six months. Much like the unveiling Dallas was privy to back on March 2nd for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge the same must be said for what was truly a progressive movement moment in the great Northwest fifty years ago today.

The world was introduced to the 8th Wonder of the World. Just in time for the World's Fair that was to be hosted in Seattle later that summer. 

Happy 50th Birthday to the Seattle Space Needle and to its adjoining monorail system. Having spent five memorable years in Seattle as a resident the Needle was the first thing I always noticed when going for my morning cup of Joe and cigarette. It was also the last thing that winked at me when I was ready to call it a night.

So many nights and days I would literally stand right under the Needle when doing radio shifts at 95.7 KJR-FM in the late 90's. You could not help but notice its presence when attending Sonics games. Dinner at Jalisco's or Cafe Minnie's at the corner of Queen Anne and Denny Rd. 

New Year's Eve under the Space Needle was truly a sight to behold as year after year you witnessed one of the best New Year's Eve fireworks shows to ring in a new year. I took a bunch of great pictures one night to welcome in 2001 when I knew I was heading to Texas. 

The day before I left the West Coast I spent an afternoon inside the Space Needle enjoying the sights, sounds, and the mountains. Hard to fathom that the Emerald City is covered by three tributaries of water with the Puget, Pacific, and Lake Union. It was a very relaxing cool afternoon in February after three months of planning.

The tributes and the encomiums shall continue for the Space Needle as the year progresses. For now I just say 'Happy 50th' Space Needle. You continue to wear it well.
