Once upon a time it used to be I would bartend the afternoon away on a Super Bowl Sunday. Back in the late 90's and prior. Another thing I did that was rather comical was donning the warpaint of each team. One half of my face I'd paint the color of the AFC representative. Ditto the NFC team. It just so happened that on this day 1995 it would be a battle of Northern and Southern California for Super Bowl 29 in Miami. 

The title of this post pays homage to a phrase made famous by the robot in the 1987 Steve Guttenberg flick 'Short Circuit'. It also is to give kudos to the 49rers for gathering a 5th Super Bowl ring against no losses with Steve Young at the helm.

For years Steve Young was the guy who never won anything. Don't even start to yap about his time with the USFL and that 40 million dollar contract with the L.A. Express. A stint with Tampa Bay also didn't quite pan out for the descendant of Brigham Young.

In 1994 that would all change. Playing a Charger team that began the year 1-4 and with a fullback known as 'Natron Bomb' Means many thought the South would do it again. Not so!

In completely manhandling San Diego by a 49-26 count Steve Young found Jerry Rice in the open a few times and tossing 6 touchdown passes in a Super Bowl victory, setting a record that still stands today! Doug Williams had the honor at 5 from Super Bowl Super Bowl 22...

One of the few games where points were scored each quarter. Upon completion this game you saw the same look of relief on Steve Young's face as you did Tom Landry in 1972. NO LONGER would Steve Young be in the shadow of Joe Montana. How great a gig was it to play quarterback by the Bay in 1994? Steve Bono was your 3rd stringer making a million a year just to track plays and watch greatness close up.

As we are now 1 week away from the 46th start of this big game put me on record to state that I believe the Giants are the more complete team and they will once again find a way to thrive and survive another classic matchup. A rarity in most Super Bowls. Usually we seem to average a score of 41-14 if you to do an aggregate average score on every game combined.

Back to the makeup: Half 49ers, Half Chargers. It looked great and I cleaned up at the bar. That plan happened one more time in 1996 when Dallas defeated Pittsburgh 27-17 and I was a mix of Black and Yellow and Silver and Blue. Fun times those were...

Double dipping today with the hardwood fun. Texas Legends and Dallas Mavericks for another chapter of 'The Battle of I-35'. Never a dull moment when the Mavericks and Spurs play. I'll be there with a few of my close friends.
