    A Welcoming Change.

Happy Thursday America. Great to have you here.

It's official. The dog days of August are now over and done with. Thoughts of the summer, the beach, the suntan and travel now switch to school, autumn, the sweater collection and observing the change in foliage as the leaves fall and change color.

11 years ago today I became a single man. I remember how much of a sense of relief I had that day in the courtroom. It was time for a change. And a good one at that. Let me be clear in saying things were amicable with the ex. Added closure in 2009 allowed for many good things to happen. No regrets, only well wishes.

This could be a topic for the day. Why is it that change is something we tend to oppose or fight for as long as we can until forced to deal with the inevitable? I am guilty of this, no question. Like a stern mule kick to the gonads before you react, this has usually been my approach, right or wrong.

This weekend the fever pitch of sport shall switch to football on all levels. I am fine with that. I also welcome the home stretch of baseball playing out their regular season of games with only a select few who will go the route of the playoffs. In light of the current matchup with the Yankees and Red Sox, my memories of 1977 and 1978 are reborn as this rivalry fueled my love of baseball as a kid. Not the same in Texas since football is king.

Locally, I can now save exponentially on the air conditioning bill. Opening up the blinds and windows to air things out. Hard to believe by weeks end there will have been 68 100 degree days in the summer of 2011. Again teased by the trend setter of 1980. I'll settle for 2nd. Why not? It was a memorable summer.

In light of the ice snap we experienced in the winter of 2011 I fully expect the fall in North Texas to be wetter than normal. Lord knows we need the rain. The drought conditions here have been horrific. To say nothing about a new round of fires out Possum Kingdom way. Not a good situation for Labor Day travelers who love boating and camping.

More than anything September reminds you that the year is almost over. You then see how quickly the days pass before we welcome the holidays, a new year, and look back at the year that was.

September is like a return to normalcy from the extremes of the earlier seasons. Cooler temperatures at night and awakening to the need for a sweatshirt as you go write in your journal and tank up on coffee at your local Starbucks.

September is finding a place to put the summer wardrobe away and review what you absolutely will not wear in the coler weather. You also discover quite quickly what fits and what doesn't. Just saying.

Wherever your holiday travels take you, be safe, have fun, and count your blessings!

    Make it a great day!

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
