Have You Hurd The Wurd?
Hello and Happy Friday everyone...
It goes without saying that sometimes appearances can be very deceiving. You can have a next door neighbor you converse with for years with only a fence separating the two of you and then one day you learn about a shooting in your area. It was that neighbor. The same thing about a coworker you know little about to one day see his face on television for an alleged wrongdoing.
The more I read about this arrest of an ex-Cowboy and the amount of stuff he was trying to buy and sell you get a feeling this is a tip of the iceberg. The NFL is going to have a problem on it's hands when this all goes to trial in the fall of 2012. Make no mistake about the following: Since before the days of Pete Rozelle, the big-wigs of the NFL will do their damnedest to keep any and all bad press away from the playing field.
What will probably happen is the following: Sam Hurd will face all kinds of charges and ample jail time...until he decides to start naming names as to who was wanting demand of his supply. Locally many fans and people are wondering how many current Cowboys might get mentioned or implicated. Some nervous people now hold their breath as to what will come of this arrest.
The one common response I get from so many people who knew Sam Hurd was nice guy, kept to himself, loved the Lord, and was always good about having a great work ethic. That said, you have to wonder how disciplined one must be when it comes to maintaining a real job and then doing bigger things on the sly. This is a scandal that will get rather interesting in the weeks and months to come...
Certainly I'm no angel and have lots of skeletons in my closet yet I am always befuddled by the following: Newsflash about someone who snaps or loses it and gets in trouble. The first thing you always hear is,'He was so quiet and he kept to himself. We never thought it would be him.'
The fact is you will NEVER truly know a person fully. You can know a good amount of what someone is about. You will never know a person fully. Not even after 50 years. Humanity keeps transitional over time. You might perhaps get an accurate inkling about a friends tendencies. Even then you might be surprised at the outcome.
Regarding Sam Hurd, I certainly did not see this coming. This now makes the case for Tim Tebow a little easier to swallow and handle. Best of luck to you Sam. You're going to need it.
