Week 5: Time To Refine Overdrive!

Good Morning and Happy Saturday my friends!

Many of you will be locked in with the Red River Rivalry at 11 this morning in downtown Dallas. Some of you will also be focusing on Game 1 of the ALCS with the Tigers and Rangers later in the day, weather permitting. If you are taking the kids to Taylor Swift at Cowboys Stadium be sure to have fun. I on the other hand will be at a celebrity golf event with the DFW Sports Angel, Everson Walls, and Krystle Gutierrez from Fox 4. The second annual Alex Puente Memorial Scholarship Fund. I always enjoy a day on the greem sluffing and duffing.

Last week yours truly had a serious case of egocentric stupidity. To pick all the home teams against the spread was a bit of a stretch after three stellar weeks of choosing. That's the last time I fail to prep before making a smart decision.

Despite correctly the right teams in ten of 16 cases, the spreads humbled me like pie gone bad. Even so, I was lucky to have a 7-9 record with my thought of home cooking. 39-21-4 year to date. Need to at the very least maintain a 9-7 mark or record for a wonderful year to date finish.

Of all the match ups I see for Week 5 there are quite a few trap games I would not touch, beginning with the Saints at Carolina. Cam Newton has been impressive with what he has been able to do, I must admit. This could be the week the Pack finally gets a flat in Atlanta as the Falcons try to exact some revenge from last years playoff loss. If the Atlanta D can get to Aaron Rodgers early it may be so.

Been pretty good on locks of the week. I will state this to be the case in New England as the Jets appear to be a team in disarray with Nick Mangold out and not at 100%. Will the Vikings finally win despite an 0-4 record and still no Quarterback controversy? Are the Niners ready to roll? Can the Liions get to 5-0? Will the Jags finally get a complete game on a team who are coming off a big win on the Bills?

With the passing of Al Davis (a tribute to him tomorrow), it will be a long day for the Texans tomorrow. I foresee more problems for the dream team in upstate New York...

Okay, without further adieu this week I like Kansas City (+1.5), Minnesota (-3.5), Buffalo (+3), Oakland (+4.5), Carolina to pull off the upset (+6.5), Cincinnati (-2.5), Pittsburgh (-3), Giants (-10), San Francisco (-3), New England (-7.5), Denver (+3.5), Atlanta (+5.5) on NBC and Detroit in the Monday Nighter (-5) as they will advance to 5-0 for the 1st time since 1980. For the second week in a row the Texas Rangers will be in the same city as where the Monday Night game shall be.

Yesterday you saw some GREAT baseball games of elimination. First time all final scores were by a margin of 1 run. The first time Chris Carpenter threw a 1-0 ballgame in his career. Three great baseball towns in the semifinals. You can make an argument for Texas. Football will always be first in the Lone Star State.

I have many friends who want to see a repeat of 1934, 1968, 2006 with the Cardinals and Tigers. I imagine the amounts of beer sold if the Brewers and Tigers should meet. Rangers-Brewers would be fun in that Texas would get to battle their old GM Doug Melvin. It's been ten years. Here's to two great series.

Don Larsen threw his perfect game this day in 1956 on the Dodgers. Brooklyn has yet to recover...

If you didn't enjoy watching all this great pitching, especially in Philadelphia Friday night with two best friends on the mound, you don't know baseball. You'll never grasp the essence of the post-season. Happy watching all the same.

Make it a great day, and yes the Sooners will win in a blowout.

Over and out in Big D.

    Mr. Will
