And Making the Call.
Happy Thursday my friends.
How gratifying was it to be able to enjoy an evening on the heels of a cold front shooting through? I chuckle because the temperatures here now plummet from 110 to a mere 94. The numbers can be a little tricky.
I have experienced days where the heat reached tripled digits yet the air was dry. I have also felt first hand what it's like to contend with a 90 degree day and humidity in the 75% range. That is an absolute beating, you can believe that.
It brought a smile to my face as the cold front happened for a second year in a row when the Minnesota Twins made a visit to Arlington, Texas. Last year my boy Fish was elated that the temps dropped from 93 to 75 by games end.
It so happened that early morning storms rolled on through and helped to lower temperatures across North Texas. This made watching last night's Ranger-Twins game that much more enjoyable.
As luck would have it, I also got to run into my friend Lew Patton and his best friend Kristi Kiker. Poor kid wasn't aware of just how much Capt. Patton and myself have at ball games. The laughter was at a maximum. The mind-play was spot on too...
In the bottom of the first last night in Arlington Josh Hamilton came to the plate. I took one look at Lew and said, 'Home Run onto the outfield greens!' Two pitches later BANG! Straightaway drive to center field and gone! Lew and Kristi were silent and in shock.
Three minutes later, the Twins and Michael Cuddyer were at the plate. I whispered to Kristi that a fall ball was heading our way. Very next pitch I hear a THWACK! and here comes a ball our way. The wind carried it about ten rows back but in our section. Lew and Kristi were still dumbfounded and silent.
Finally it was, 'Have you always been an Idiot Savant?' Hell, why not? I said yes! In the 3rd of a four game set CJ Wilson-the ace of this team-was once again in an infectious groove with his ability to pound the plate. Another seven strong innings and a timely solo blast from Vlad Guererro. The summer slump may finally be beginning to come dissipate.
A crisply played 4-3 victory by the Texas Rangers over the Twins. Cliff Lee will try to make this a four game sweep tomorrow night in Arlington before Oakland comes to town. This will mark mark my first time watching two games in the same week in 2010. I've been ambitious much like the Rangers this season. It's all good.
Capping off the night was a quick visit to the expert EMT who makes sure all are doing well and surviving in the heat. Thanks Kat and Brandon for the funny insights. You kids do good work!
Top of my mind as I walked home-I MADE THE CALL! And we won a squeaker.
Over and out in Big D.
Mr. Will
