Deals on Wheels in the Real.
Happy Friday to you.
After a two week period of clouds and rain, North Texas will now get seasonal in its weather. For at least the next ten days the mercury will hover at 100-105 depending on where you live in North Texas. Not always something you get used to, but it does tend to grow on you after a while.
Almost as hot as the weather is the amount of wheeling and dealing that may be going on in Baseball as we reach the deadline tomorrow afternoon. Kudos to the Rangers for another successful home stand against their western rivals. August is called the Dog Days for good reason. In the words of REO Speedwagon, only the strong survive.
This rumor has been floating around all day. The Rangers apparently interested in shopping Scott Feldman and Rich Harden for a Ted Lilly! Big lead or not, I smell a red flag here. Sometimes you can do too much and overplay your hand in the face of a pennant. Not one year ago you had a hoss named Kevin Millwood who fulfilled all incentives to deserve a return to Texas. That didn't happen as he was dealt to Baltimore for Chris Ray. Ray already gone for Bengie.
Now you wish to dump your ace from a year ago along with the bust of 2010? Play fine, but I warn the Ranger lifer that you walk a very slippery precipice when each year you have a game of Rent-A-Dude. In 39 years of Arlington history, has there ever been a core of talent that you kept intact a la the Dodger infield of 1973-1981? Apparently not.
If this ballclub is succeeding with mirrors thus far then they'll expose themselves this month. I simply say that you may be overtrading and overreaching in a season where you have done more good than bad. Let the chemistry continue!
Christian Guzman now a Ranger for the remainder of the season. Once again Ian Kinsler finds the DL and can't stay healthy. Guzman will be good insurance as he covers all fields. If Feldman and Harden get dumped, this will be another example of dumping cash as the Rangers remain broke. The Nationals also chipped in cash? Jon Daniels you are amazing.
Happy to see Miguel Tejada go to the Padres. He'll enjoy the pennant run there. Surprised Roy Oswaly wound up in Philly. Can you imagine a trio of Lee, Halladay, and Oswalt had Cliff stayed? Now picture Roy and Cliff in pinstripes in 2011. I make that call.
Didn't see this one coming: Lance Berkman now a Yankee! Talk about dying and going to heaven. Quite the fan favorite in H-Town. He will be missed. Best if luck to Sir Lance...A Lot!
Nine game road trip for the Rangers before returning to play the Yankees and Red Sox. It has been a fun ride so far for Texas. If there was a time for a slide, now is when it will happen. I would be more leery of the Athletics than the Angels. Maybe some crazy hops start to reveal themselves. That's baseball where I'm from.
Cleveland, way to stay classy. Granted that fan wearing the Miami Heat LeBron jersey was an idiot. The girlfriend a perfect candidate for Jerry Springer. Now they're Youtubed for life. Nice legacy for their future childen....
Ankle sprain for the Dezzinator. He'll miss 4-6 weeks. May he heal quickly.
Over and out in Big D
Mr. Will
