The Storm Before the Calm
There has been a 2 hour 18 minute rain delay as baseball now resumes in Arlington, Texas. A night where the Texas Rangers are 6 outs away from an 11th win in 13 tries. Prior to the rain delay there was some good pitching and timely homers by Taylor Teagarden and Marlon Byrd. This was enough to buffet Vicente Padilla in his first return to the mound since being diagnosed with the Swine Flu.
A few pics I took while the weather got ugly before and during the rain delay I now share with you. 37,000 fans were in the building to watch a game and some fireworks which were fired off during the delay.
In seven years of attending Rangers games I have seen some consistent rain delays. The one that lasted over 3 hours when the Red Sox were here 4/30/04 was pretty intense. A rain delay we had 8/11/03 with the Tigers caused a 25 degree temperature drop. There was also a heck of a hailstorm this year 5/26th when the Yankees were here.
Tonights weather got interesting in the 7th of a fast paced game. Michael Young at bat, then the wind, the texts, and the dark clouds. Within 20 minutes the rains came and I felt like I was back in Astoria Oregon's coastline where the rains fall sideways and the wind gusts exceed 60 mph. I was able to get a few phone pics before it died.
The temperature dropped to 71 from 87 as the rains roared. I was shown a picture of a supercell on a friends phone. It covered a huge chunk of real estate. I knew it was time to go home.
My thanks to David Beaver for his assist on some mobile shots. Thanks to all my FB and Twitter tweeters who checked in while I was getting deluged on. It's now 5-4 in the 8th. I will now watch the rest of the game on my telly! Go Rangers!
Time for some dinner!
Over and out in Big D
