    Spawning a Spahn...

Happy Birthday Tony Romo, Warren Spahn and the Space Needle!

It was this day in 1962 that the Space Needle was opened to the public. Just in time to accommodate the many people in Seattle for the World's Fair. Dubbed as the Eighth Wonder of the World, millions have passed through the turnstiles to watch the wonderful views of the Cascades, Puget Sound, and of course the seemingly panoramic view of downtown Seattle, Washington. In life I have learned to never say never, but if there were one place I would be okay with returning and living out my life, it would be the great Northwest.

Kudos to the Mavericks in overcoming a 13 point deficit and winning Game 1 in Riverwalk country. You;re always content to get a split when you start a series on the road. Josh Howard played some deep minutes and JJ Barea played some hearty D in allowing Dallas the chance to compete...and win. This could become an interesting series. Most people feel that the Mavs can win in 5 with the Spurs all kinds of old and injured. Game 2 tonight.

One year ago this weekend there was a walk through of the Byron Nelson golf course with local guy Hank Haney and a special guest. There had been a few new additions and renovations to the course. Around the 6th hole, a par 3, I see Mr. Haney and his special guest who needs no introduction in Dallas. Knowing full well that his birthday was about happen, I waited until the guest shot his shot onto the green and then I yelled, 'Happy early Birthday Tony!' Tony Romo looked back and smiled and said, 'Thanks man!.' It was a cool moment in that one year prior, during March Madness, I took a picture with Tony, albeit blurry. Tony I am told is quite the scratch golfer, he may have a career after pro football.

When I think of Warren Spahn, I think of the winningest left handed pitcher of all time. Like Joe McCarthy, a product of Buffalo, NY. 363 career victories pitching well into his mid 40's. There was an old saying for Warren and teammate Johnny Sain. Spahn and Sain...and Pray for Rain. Johnny Sain I remember was a 3rd base coach for the White Sox circa 1974. Johnny Sain ia also known as the last player to face Babe Ruth in uniform in an exhibition. Have fun with that bit of trivia!

North of Buffalo lies Toronto Ontario. This is where the Rangers will start a seven game road trip. There is talk that we may see the debut of a new kid named Derek Holland. I saw Holland pitch in Frisco in 2008. Originally a closer, if Holland shows the same level of poise he had in Double A, Ron Washington's pitching choices may get that much easier. I will be happy with a 4-3 road trip, though 5-2 would be bad assed! As Brandon McCarthy goes, so go the Rangers! I am sticking with that mantra...

    Make it a great day!

    Time for a walk!

Over and out in Big D
