    Gridiron Thunder and Lightning...

Happy Monday to you. Still getting my bearings in place on a day that resembles Seattle in January as the rains fall and the winds keep things on the cool side. Many an observation in light of what I saw over the weekend. To wit...

    1. Nawlins, I tip the old cap to you for your improbable comeback on the Dolphins in Miami yesterday. I actually thought I saw a misprint when I went to nap at the half and you trailed 24-10. Imagine my surprise when I saw you ran off with a second half scoring surge and a 46-34 victory to remain unbeaten at 6-0. Nicely done Mr. Brees and Mr. Payton.

    2. Dallas, that was the most complete all-around game in your arsenal all season. While I cannot figure out why it is that people have a hard time tackling Miles Austin, another example of how you toss the homerun ball to your action guy. Roy Williams notwithstanding, a hell of a performance by Tony Romo, The Cowboy Front Four, and yes, Patrick Crayton's electrifying 73 yard TD burst. 4-2 and another home game with the Hawks Sunday at noon. The only noon game they'll see as the NFL goes 'Flex' in 2 weeks.

    3. A 1st in NFL history. Not one, not two, but THREE TD plays of 70 yards or more in the 4th period at Pittsburgh when the Steelers and Vikings locked horns and steel. Percy Harvin's kickoff return after the Merriweather run was amazing. Brett Favre now has an emotional return to Green Bay next Sunday. I can only imagine what the fans will and won't do.

    4. You would think that on a day when God is resting, a good day would be had by the Cardinals AND the Angels! Well, I got that half right. The Blitz-happy team from Arizona created all kinds of mismatches for Eli and crew for which they fell 24-17. That was a shock to me. First two game skid for the Giants since December 2008...

    5. The New York Jets with a second straight week of 300 rushing yards. That hasn't happened since the Buffalo Bills of 1975 when OJ Simpson and Jim Braxton shared the backfield.

5a. Did it seem like there were alot of blowouts in the NFL yesterday? That's because there were! Six games where the margin of victory was 28 points or more! Last time that happened? 12/20/70. The Beatles broke up that year. The year of the NFL-AFL merger.

We still have a Monday nighter in DC. Eagles-Redskins should for all intents and purposes be a yawner that the Eagles win handily. Regradless of what Dan Snyder's brain trust says, Jim Zorn is on borrowed time. We may see a change after this week...

    Make it a great week!

    Time for sleep!

Over and out in Big D

    Mr. Will
