    Hail to the Bullet!

Happy Friday and Happy Birthday to Gene Hackman!

Wasn't it just Christmas Day last week? Man, how the time flies! Even faster as you get older. Go figure...

This weekend there will be new names entered into the Hall of Fame for 2009. One of the names being bounced around is 'Bullet' Bob Hayes. It's only a matter of when he gets in posthumously. When Hayes does enter he shall be the first to have won a Super Bowl ring AND an Olympic medal. Long before names like Renaldo Nehemiah and Willie Gault made the transition from representing USA to going pigskin pro, Bob Hayes was the first to bring the dynamic of speed into an offense in the mid sixties until 1975 while doing his thing in the WFL. I still recall his last catch as a Cowboy...

9/29/74 was Week 3 in the NFL. The New York Giants were a team without a home, playing all home games in New Haven Connecticut while Yankee Stadium was being renovated. It was a long sorry year for the G-men as they were 2-12. Both wins were on the road. One of the wins occurred at Texas Stadium on this day.

A day where the Lone Stars were held scoreless for over 59 minutes. It was then that Roger Staubach connected with the Bullet for a fifty something yard bomb, denying New York the first shutout on the Cowboys since a 38-0 shutout on Dallas on a Monday night in 1971. New York prevailed 14-6 while allowing Bob Hayed his very last catch as a pro. You might recall that despite an 8-6 record and a thrilling Turkey Day on the Redskins, Dallas did not reach the playoffs in 1974. It was the only time from 1966 through 1985 that the Silver and Blue missed the postseason.

A great autobiography on the life of Bob Hayes is called 'Run Bullet Run'. Among other things you will learn that Bob Hayes had a photographic memory and is quite candid about his problems with the law. I hope Hayes gets the nod on Saturday. He is worthy!

Apparently the number of great pre-Super Bowl parties haven't been all that Super. Blame the economy, the teams or maybe the location, the A-listers are being drowned out by the B-Listees. Can't wait to read about the dirt that gets dished on Monday...

I saw it and I still don't believe it! The Dallas Stars are discovering the power of controlling the power play and getting goals when they present themselves. Thursday night in Detroit Marty Turco FINALLY gets his first regular season victory at the Joe with a resounding 4-2 victory. Incredulously, the Stars win three of four from Detroit. James Neal and Brad Richards continue to shine on the ice and the defensive mix of Jere Lehtinene, Steve Ott, and Daryl Sydor are making a case as to why the amount of ice time for people like Mark Parrish and Fabian Brunnstrom have been minimal. Thursday's win was also the most physical the Stars have played all season. A trip to Columbus on Saturday to end January. February, Dallas plays ten of thirteen at home. Look for a 9-4 month for February as things continue to jell...

Manny Ramirez turns down a 2 year/45 million dollar contract on the Dodgers? Wow! Scott Boras is going to play thins game of railroad to the hilt. It's too bad Manny only gets jacked up during contract seasons. Still think that the Mets will play into this equation before the contract talks end. Stay tuned...

    Make it a great weekend!

    Time for a walk!

Over and out in Big D
