102 Years in the Making.
Happy Birthday Jennifer Grey! James Dean left us this day in 1955 at the tender age of 24. Forever immortalized by the Eagles. Babe Ruth hit #60 off Tom Zachary this day in 1927, a Sunday.
For the first time since 1995 there was a one game playoff to determine an N.L. Central winner. The White Sox first had to play a makeup game with Detroit yesterday. Alexei Ramirez hits a grand salami for an 8-2 win. Nothing like a Cuban Missile to lead out of a crisis.
This night was deja-vu for Ken Griffey Jr. He played in that last playoff game 10/2/95. The day before O.J.was acquitted of murder, the Mariners plastered the Angels at the Kingdome 9-1. Randy Johnson got his 20th victory in relief. Late in the game there was an assist on a throw to the plate to tag out a Twins runner. John Danks and Nick Blackburn tossed goose eggs until the bottom of the 7th when a change-up hung up and Jim Thome connected for #541. 1-0 was your final tally as Jenks came on for the save. Alot of people wonder if this is the last hurrah for Junior, Thome, and Konerko...
The White Sox and Cubs are both in the playoffs for the first time in 102 years simultaneously. You know what? Now I want to see all Chicago series! That would be a hoot! Oh, to be a bartender in downtown Chitown. IF this should transpire, I can only imagine what might have been had Harry Caray still been here to see it, and call it. Rangers fans can take solace in the fact that an ex-Ranger paved the way for a division title. Ranger fans await a day in their lifetime when the word ex isn't being bandied about in the postseason.
The Steelers may have won last night's wart with the Ravens. It came at a high cost. Five injured players with two gone for the year. The Steel Crew's D in the space of 15 seconds put 14 points on the board in the 3rd quarter and that made all the difference.
Locally the media is bitching and crying about the poor play-calling by Jason Garrett Sunday. Why were there so many throws being made T.O's way? Why was the run abandoned? What happened to Felix Jones? Can we place more blame on Roy Williams? No, No and No! Just one game, peeps. Bring on the No-Show Sinkos! I mean the Bengirls :)
Tripleheader of baseball tomorrow with Philly and the Brew Crew to start. L.A and Chicago will enjoy this moment in the sun for at least one week. Red Sox Angels play the late game at 9pm CST. That's the one I'll be watching.
Over and out in Big D
