    Not the 80's!

Still two weeks away from the Belmont Stakes, that 1.5. mile stretch that has denied many a horse from Triple Crown glories (eleven horses alone since 1979) it is being discovered and reported that Big Brown has a minor hoof issue, a partial break. One that be fixed and hopefully cured with rest and time.

Eleven times in the last thirty years has a horse won the first two legs of a Triple Crown. Prior to that you had back to back winners in Seattle Slew and Affirmed. Do I believe that we will finally see a Triple Crown winner? Having already had my heart broken with Smarty Pants and Charismatic in the last ten years, I won't hold my breath. Kent Desormeaux has a track record with winning horses. He feels very confident about how Big brown is racing. June 7th at about 5pm EST we will get that possible historic moment in our lifetime.

My Memorial Day weekend was spent working. I hope you had fun wherever you went. There seem to be many places that people like to go this holiday. Here in North Texas you have many options be it Lake Texoma at the border. Possum Kingdom if you go west of Fort Worth, Sneaky Pete's draws some crazy business on Lake Lewisville if you are a boater. You may also like to go the hiking route. Take your pick from the Piney Woods of East Texas, New Braunfels with inner tubing on the water closer to San Antone, the fun and musical weirdness that is Austin, even the higher reaches of Central Oklahoma or Western Arkansas.

I guess for me a vacation/getaway isn't really that if everybody else is also going to be there. When I go someplace I like to just disappear and become anonymous. For me that place was attainable along the Oregon Coast near Lincoln City. I'd go back every year if I could...

The Boston Celtics took another step to reaching the Finals with a crisp win over Detroit this night. It really doesn't matter what this team does the rest of the season. A complete improvement/overhaul from a 2007 season that saw only 26 wins. Doc Rivers and the 'Mbutu' mantra get my vote for 'Coach Of the Year'. The Big Three haven't exactly won any sway from me so far in the playoffs, but I now concede that when the dust settles, I will have to eat my words and watch the Celtics and Lakers make everyone in the media and NBA world happy with the dream matchup. To quote Lloyd Bentsen, 'Fans , I remember 1984, 1985, and 1987. You had great matchups and marquee players...Rambis...Bird...Magic...Scott...Johnson...McHale...Jabbar...Riley...Those teams had bad blood, history and respect. I lived in Orange County at the time. Those were memorable days...2008, you're no 1980's!'

I will enjoy the series, but I refuse to buy into all the media-hype about how great these teams are. This will be simply the Kobe and Kevin hour with a passabble supporting cast. Enjoy the ride. I suppose that's good news. Spurs fans wouldn't know a tip if you gave them a canoe, some water, and a Canadian tour guide.

The Penguins bounce back nicely in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh. Sydney Crosby: when he is on, it's like the perfect date. Hard to find fault anywhere...

    Enjoy the short work week!

Over and out in Big D
